I have an almost 2 year old 60gb PS3. the other morning i turned it on and a message popped up saying "the hard drive will be rebuilt" i pressed OK and it started up lik it usually does. it did this once before acouple months ago except he first time it took like 10 minute to start back up. my friend told me that tha means the PS3 is going to fail. is that true. what should i do. i heard u have a good rep onhere.

If this becomes a weekly or daily issue you might consider replacing the hard drive... oh wait am I actually allowed to help you? I would also suggest not turning the ps3 off while its writing data and to follow proper shut down procedures.. |

Funny thing is that the same thing happened to me, lol! I know, its weird but I seem to have all the problems with the PS3 (except for YLOD, thank goodness). So basically after it stated that it was rebuilding the database, it stated that it failed, right? I had this issue when I was trying to use a previous backup when I was getting a trophy error. What I ended up doing was having format the hard drive completely. After I did that the only thing that I could work from my backups was my Saved Game files. So if you have any backups on USBs, it seems like you will need to be using those and redownloading/installing the games from the PSN. Summary: Backup your Saved Games onto a USB drive individually, not the Backup function and format your hard drive and copy them over. |

I've heard of this happening before, but never heard of it causing any problems later on. Could just be a faulty drive, or some problem with the way it was shut down, or a problem with the way a game was installed, or something.
You're not losing any data, are you? In the other cases I've heard, nothing is lost (game save data, videos, music, etc) but you do lose the tags/folders that you may have used to sort things (assuming you have nicely organized media on your HDD). So I say don't worry about it. |

![]() If it didn't fail then I'd continue to act like nothing happened. Keep in mind that the hard drive in your PS3 is made by Seagate and they make excellent hard drives. Though its never a bad idea to upgrade your hard drive. If you want some suggestions, just ask as everyone will be willing to help. |
