OAR - that's my favorite for any movie.

If I was making a film, it would probably be in scope(2.35:1), unless I wanted to accentuate the vertical nature of some scenes or characters(ala Speilberg in Jurassic Park).

OAR. But it is nice when a movie was shot with a 16X9 aspect ratio.

For something like Dark Knight, I liked it the way it was done for BD (shifting aspect ratio for IMAX footages). It was fine since it emulated the same viewing experience that I had in the theater.

Did you mean 1.75:1? If so, I don't think there are any movies in that aspect ratio. Maybe you meant 1.78:1, which is 16:9, which is full screen for HDTV's.
Maybe you meant 1.85:1.

Personally, my favorite is OAR, as mentioned above.

The last aspect ratio thread got the lockdown!

Anyway, no preference, just as long as it isn't changed from what the director originally used.

I don't think you guys are getting the purpose of this question. The OP was asking what your favourite AR would be if you could PICK.

I agree that I would prefer watching the intended AR over cropping... but the question is "What is your favourite AR, in general"?

I like 16:9 because it's wider than 4:3 and it fits the TV. But anything goes =)

If that's what the OP meant then I pick 1.78.

I'm OAR all the way, but I do like it when my screen is filled more. Guess that means my favorite AR is 1.78:1.

OAR

But if I had to pick one, it's 2.40:1. Love the scope!

It depends...... I hate black bars.... they're terrible, so I like the "Zoom" ratio..... but if the movie has a lot of grain then I want the black bars as big as possible to see less grain, so I cover the screen with black Duct tape to give myself a 3 cubic inch viewing area........

2:35:1 is my preferred viewing AR. However I will take what ever the OAR is and enjoy the movie.
