The best version of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1967)??? 161 minutes? The extended cut with newly dubbed scenes? Are the extra scenes helpful or not?

I am ok with the original, I did not see that much of an improvement with the new scenes added IMO

Bruce, I wonder if you could list what the extra scenes were? I have only seen the extended cut once and honestly do not remember them very well at all.

to answer your question tho, i agree with P@T. loved the original, didn't feel the need for the extra stuff (similar to how i feel about robin hood PoT

)

Didn't know there was an "extended" version, so i guess i chose the original.

The chicken scene with Tulco and his men in the cave. A longer version of Eastwood and Tulco in the dessert. More stuff with Wallach and Eastwood on the wagon, prior to capture. ..Any scene, where you notice Wallach and Eastwood's voices sounding lower and older.

If you've seen the earlier version: if flows so much better. The new scenes basically fatten an already perfect film. Plus: the new Eastwood/Wallach voicework is distracting and clashes with the old soundtrack.

You owe yourself: to find the 161 minute version of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1967), if you can find it. Look for the old MGM (1998ish) copies with the MGM logo on the DVD disc. And a quarter white/half-blue backing on the box. That’s the one you want. I believe you can still find it on-line.

It didn't fit with the other thread.

And yes, Prince of Thieves (1991), has the same problem.

I hope MGM gets smart. And includes both.

Or they do the Blu-Ray thing: and release the theatrical first. That would work

I doubt we'll get both cuts. Probably just the extended. Same release that they put out a few years ago. Anyone know when MGM will be releasing it?

The newer cut was fun to watch once, but I'll stick with the original.
