Default Samsung BD-P1400 HELP PLEASE!!!

I bought an open box bd-p1400 at BB. I tried to watch movies (blu and DVD) and it says can not read disc. Indy 4 is ok, Transformers is a no go, Dark knight is ok, I am Legend is not. I updated the firmware and it says version 0706...is that the lastest? I tried to burn the newest to disc but it just reads "root". It will not play standard dvds at all. I have a ps3 and it takes a second to load, but the 1400 takes forever, is that the way it is with the stand alones? Any help is appreciated!! Any settings adjustments?

Thanks

HMMMM thats weird, check Samsung's website to see if in fact thats the latest update. But if it wont even play DVD's that seems really fishy, if you have the receipt; I would take it back. Sounds like it might be a defected player.

EDIT: I just re-read and saw that you said it was open box. Did they say you could return an open box item????

Hi CRMA....I have a 1400 as well (though it's not an out-of-box-that might be your trouble right there...)The current firmware file name is ISO_BDP1400_XAA_081218_01_WEBSITE
Hope that helps a little bit...If you turn your player on and go to Menu, Setup, System Upgrade, System Information-the info box that pops up should read: S/W:081218.01_XAA

If it doesn't, you don't have the latest firmware. Best of luck!

I paid $500 for mine when it first came out. It was about 8 months later when it wouldnt read any blu without trying about 3 to 5 times. today its a coaster! Im not happy with that purchase. I would have rather paid $100, believe me.

Same here! I paid the $500 dollars as well. But it is still going pretty strong! Load times could be better...

Back to the problem, I would take an air duster (liquid free version) and spray the thing down from the back (where the fan is) and from the front, to try and get any dust that may be in there out. Make sure you keep the air can perfectly up right not to get any liquid o2 out and freeze the inside of your player! Oh and make sure you unplug it first! I clean mine out that way every 3 months or so, and you wouldn't believe the dust that can build up inside there. Cause with them putting that fan on there is the cause of that problem.

Then directly after that run a DVD (well if your able to play a DVD that is...) lens cleaner for like 5 minutes. Not just once, run it a couple times. And then yeah, double check to make sure you have the very latest FW installed correctly! And if all that doesn't work, for sure take it back!

Still odd where it will play some Blu-Rays but not DVD's. I mean cleaning it out probably won't help in that regards but it is worth a try I guess....
