I woke up for work and moved my controller from where it was to put it away, and it was stuck down. It had melted a little on the handle part to the table where I had it laying. The PS3 had turned off after 2 hours of inactivity when I was playing it earlier.
What gets me is it's a brand new controller, I bought it like 2-3 days ago, and have only used it for a couple of days. I plugged it in initially got it a full charge, unplugged it and haven't plugged it back in since. Think I'm going to bring it back to Best Buy later and swap it out for a new one before it melts completely! |

I don't see how a PS3 controller could produce enough voltage to melt plastic. Particularly at the tips of the controller as you mention.
I think you're barking up the tree thinking the controller melted itself. Rather something melted it. |

I've taken apart my controller to fix a stuck R1 trigger button. And, if you are saying the two points at the very bottom of the controller (where your palms support it) melted, there is nothing inside that could do that. Therefore, you are looking at an outside influence. Perhaps you left it on a black table and it had exposure to the sun for many hours? Or, could somebody have accidentally placed it on a heat source temporarily to get it out of the way?
There is no way that the controller melted itself. |

It was sitting on a bed, near absolutely no direct heat source, uncovered. I thought at first maybe something had somehow been spilled on it even though there was absolutely no food or drinks on the bed itself or even near the bed to have spilled on it. It was well away from any other forms of electronic items, or anything that I can even partially imagine would cause any damage to it.
I thought maybe it was something on the bed sheets so I got a wet cloth and scrubbed at it but nothing came off. So I used my fingernails to try to scratch it off, nothing came off either. So I knew it wasn't something stuck on it. I also live alone so I know that nobody else was messing with it or moved it from where I had left it. My TV and receiver were off, but the PS3 was on (I have a bad habit of leaving the PS3 on), so I know that the ambient temperature in the room was roughly 70 degrees. So if anybody has any other explanations, I'd love to hear them, because I am so confused and baffled it's not even funny. Edit: I also work overnight, so there's no direct sun coming in my room as I sleep during daylight hours and I've got a curtain and blinds on the window. |
