Surround upgade (190s to 390s) worth the $$? - Blu-ray Forum

I'm considering trading in my Paradigm ADP-190s and upgrading to the ADP-390s. My local dealer is willing to give me $100/each for the 190s, so I'd end up paying $616 (Canadian, taxes in) for the 390s. I'm wondering if the improvement in my audio will be worth the cash. I would especially appreciate thoughts from anyone who has experience with both the 190s and the 390s.

I have 390's on the way right now. From what my dealer told me, you will really hear in increase in bass because of the large 7 1/2" woofer that the 190 and 290 do not have. If they are going to give you that much on a trade up I would go for it.

Were you looking at v5s or v6s. I think they sound and look pretty much exactly the same for a bit less.

You're Canadian I guess.? I live in Alberta but ordered from a dealer in Sask. over the phone and he shipped Brand new v5s to me for $670 total. Selling for $600 in store but it was 4 hours away.

I have a dealer closer to me with only v6's and wouldn't go below $750 - priced $850 at the store.... So if they got'em I would save a bit and get the v5s..if that's not what he already quoted you on.

you will notice a huge difference from the 190 to 390, much better bass and you will notice they fill the room better. I have the 370's up from the 70's, nigh and day difference. If i could afford it i would upgrade to the 390's.

Great choice on speakers, Paradigm Monitor series can't be beat for the price.

How about going from the cc-190 to the cc-290
I am picking up my monitor 7's next week and was going to get the cc190 for a center but may upgrade to the cc-290. With the monitor 7's which one ?
$200 to $230 difference.

Go for the 390's. Bigger, better sound and they'll fill your environment better then the 190's.

Thanks for all the feedback. I went ahead with the upgrade. I noticed a difference with my favorite surround tester, the first scene of Cars. The bass in the 390s was noticable. The sound seems more robust as well, which is what I was hoping for.

You should have seen the look the wife gave me when I walked in the door, boxes in hand! At least I wasn't lugging in the Signature 8s!!

Now if only I could win that lottery...

That's a good price. I wonder what it would come to with shipping? I guess I still like purchasing something that has a warrenty on it from a place I can go and complain to or get help from if necessary. Call me old fashioned...
