I live in Orlando, so yes. Two of the last three years I've been on vacation during a tropical storm, and had a daughter born during another.

Thankfully no. I live in Southern California and nothing like that where I live. We do have our share of fires though.

Oh yeah, the occasional earthquake too.

In Iowa we get back weather all the time. Every winter we get bad snowstorms and the spring and summer has terrible thunderstorms. I own an older house and the power in my neighborhood goes out quite a bit during thunderstorms. It is during this time you realize how boring it can be with no tv/internet.
Last year was especially bad though. In May there was deadly tornados in Parkersburg, a small town that somehow has produced 5 current NFL players. Pretty much the whole town was flattened but the story got a lot of press thanks to the NFL players.
Last year also had record flooding. It got the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area some, but the bulk of the damage was in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Cedar Rapids had most of it's federal/local government building right off the river and they are still deciding whether to rebuild/remodel in the old location. In Iowa City the University of Iowa had to vacate a lot of buildings as well.
So year, I've had a run in with bad weather.

Most of my life has been spent living in places with severe thunderstorms, mostly. I grew up in the south (where we had them daily) but for the most part avoided any tornadoes in my area (although we had plenty of warnings and stuff - and they've had actual ones since I moved on).

When I lived in southern Africa we had some pretty severe storms as well. My house was on top of a mountain and whenever it thundered it would shake the house to its foundation rolling around in the canyons. Not to mention the hailstorms, there. I kid you not, no exaggeration, stones as big as softballs falling from the sky. Cracked more than one windshield on our truck, and I remember one time mom and dad having to rescue a poor kid on the side of the road walking home from school -- her head had just been split wide open by those suckers.

Hurricane Katrina took homes less than a mile from mine... all the way down to their concrete slabs. Hurricanes Ivan and Frederic weren't much fun either.

I live in the Bay Area of California, so I'm a total weather pu$$y. One time last year, however, when I was up snowboarding at Bear Valley (about three hours from my home), we were snowboarding in a literal blizzard. You couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you. It was so bad we had to stop early, which is a huge disappointment when you're on a one-day kamikaze trip. Driving out of the resort and down into civilization was painstaking, as we literally had to drive about 10 mph for an hour or two due to the visibility. Getting home took about six or seven hours. Not only did we not get a full day of boarding, but we got back way later than normal.

Hmmmm, now I think about it, I wonder if trying to trying to get through the Cajon Pass and on to Vegas during snow would be considered running into bad weather.

I lived thru the infamous ICE STORM 1998 in Montreal. We had no power, electric, hot water or anything for almost 1 week and we were lucky. I remember everyone sleeping and spending all of their time in Shopping Malls, Schools, Curches, etc. The devastation was amazing, but in a weird way almost beautiful as well. The ice on the trees and stuff.....know what I mean. I think some outlaying communities had to wait up to 3 weeks and even longer for everything to be restored.
