Default Blu-ray book cardboards cases suck!

Ok, perhaps, this is a bit extreme, but would Warner please wake up and issue their blu-ray movies in the standard blue transparent discs like everyone else? I can understand trying to be different, but these paper books are very easily scratched or damaged (whereas the new blu-ray technology is scratch resistent and the cases are great - much better that regular DVD). I bought How the West Was Won and frankly they deserve some kind of award for remastering this movie in blu-ray - it is truely fabulous. BUT, I left the blu-ray book cardboard case on my table and somehow it has a deep cut in it and a big scratch across the front of the case. This is VERY depressing. Everytime I pick up the movie I get annoyed. I lhave left my other blu-rays cases on the table and none of them have ever been damaged. Ok, so maybe this was bad luck and it was maybe my fault, but now I am stuck! If this ever happens to one of my other favorite blu-ray movies, I can buy a six-pack of blu transaparent case replacements and just move the insert and movie over - walla, I have a new movie again. I see that Amadeus is out in blu-ray book and a bunch of other good Warner movies that I will NOT buy in a blu-ray book. I hope I am not the only one who hates these cases with a passion, but I don't think Warner did good market research before changing the case. I see no benefit unless they are slighly cheaper and if that is the case then I am really surprised - a beautiful blu-ray movie in a cheap easily damaged case - come on Warner at least include the insert in the blu-ray book, so I can buy a real blu-ray case - use your insert - and then throw away your piece of junk blu-ray book! I hope you are listening!

EDIT: OK, thanks for the recommendations about taking care of my discs, but it is not always possible to keep other people in my house from knocking them over or taking them out of my storage area - unless I lock them up in a metal case - now that would really be anal. Frankly, even I took special measures (handling, storage, etc.) to protect them, I just don't like the look or technology of the book - please give me the real thing - a transparent blu case - thank you!

Um, you don't think the book cover just got a deep cut and scratch all by itself, do you? I mean, if this was the Poltergeist digibook, I can see invisible forces at work...but really...

Typically I take the movie out of the case, play it, put it back in the case, and put it back on the floor (no shelves yet )

never damaged one that way..... so if you're juggling them... or using them as coasters, or playing catch with them..... I don't know what to tell you

If you really hate the cases you could buy some empty cases and print out different covers. I know some people on this site have done this with movies with different packaging.

Word. I can't wait for the Digibook of Batman (1989).

If people hate the Digibooks so much, they just need to do what you said.

I only take one case off my shelf at a time. The movie goes in my player and the case goes here:

When I'm done they both go back on the shelf.

I had a piece of oak left over from a job and made it. If you have access to a miter saw and pneumatic nailer, you can build it in about 15 minutes.

Dude, consider it MADE! I have neither tool of which you speak, but I've got plenty of adequate substitutes. I'm thinking maybe add some soft LEDs or something to kick it up a notch -- "BAM" Emerill style.

It's been a while, but I want to say I used 10° for the angle. It goes together real simple:

111.JPG

I attached pt. 1 to pt. 2 with two pin nails and some glue. Then attached pt. 1 to pt. 3 with two pin nails and some glue. Then a little putty in the nail holes and some paint, and your done.

I agree with the original poster. These cases are no good, and they are of the wrong size too.

Thank you m8 - I'm glad that someone took me seriously and agrees with what could be a legitimate marketing research point of view!
