Default star wars saga (which version)

I was looking at the different versions of star wars

The new trilogy sets

The old trilogy sets

Or the singles

Don't really care about price or much about"bonus" features, just want the best PQ and AQ
that I can get in lack of a blu-ray release.

What's the "difinitive" set to buy for now.

For the original films (IV-VI):

As far as I know, the PQ and AQ of the main features in both discs are the same. The difference is that the 2-disc-per-movie releases (the singles and the new trilogy set) have the original unedited versions of the movies on the 2nd disc (i.e., Greedo doesn't shoot first, no CGI Jabba, no edits whatsoever). The quality of the 2nd-disc unedited versions, however, is pretty bad - non-anamorphic, no surround sound, lots of scratches and print problems, etc.

The old trilogy set and the first discs of all the other releases are identical. So it's really up to how you feel about the changes Lucas has added over the years.

For the prequels (I-III):

The singles and the trilogy sets are identical, just a repackaging.

They are all the same except for some special features.

The limited theatrical releases are the best.

There not the bastardized 1997 versions.

i just bought the trilogy that was re-released in november of last year last night
i needed to replace my old full screen ones from when i was young
but i caved and didnt wait for the blu's

i recommend getting that one if u cant wait for the blu
its alot cheaper (29.99 on amazon, 29.86 at walmart.com)
and the only thing thats different is there isnt that 4th disc of bonus features
it also has the unaltered theatrical versions if you want those
the Prequel trilogy is also the same price as the original at amazon and walmart
but those second discs have special behind the scenes, documentaries, etc.

the saga set includes the discs from both the original trilogy set and the individual releases of 1, 2, and 3. So I guess get the newer saga set. The saga set also includes the discs for the unaltered versions of the original trilogy but I think the PQ on those looks horrible, so I'd say get the saga set, but remember to watch the more updated discs that it comes with.

I personally like the Original theatrical editions because Hayden Chistensen as Lukes father is just wrong. I'll tell you my thinking behind that Luke would not remember the Anakin when he was a first a Jedi he would remember Anakin when he took of Darth Vader's mask. But I do understand what George Lucas was trying to say with that change, that does not change the way I feal about it.

I was a reporter on DVD releases at the time these were released and due to a mistake by a person at 20th Century Fox I was given the office number to one of the top people at Lucasfilm, Lucas' head of marketing.
He explained that the original theatrical releases on those discs were "special features" and they had sought out the best quality of the movies available (since he claimed the original masters were all destroyed) and they discovered those to be the LaserDisc releases.
He took exception to my protestations that the quality was horrible and said when it was decided to release the movies individually he "went to George to see if the theatrical cuts could be added as a special feature." Lucas reluctantly consented.

I cant stand the newer ones, everything about them looks soo fake. 100% of the movies are shot in front of a blue screen

I want them on Blu-ray! I have the silver box for the original trilogy and the singles for the prequels.

To shut up the whiners, it might be best if Lucas put in a BYO version that made use of seamless branching. I definitely do not want to see the strings or boxes around the TIE fighters, though don't care much for Greedo shooting at all.

Most of the changes in the special editions were good IMO, though a few obviously not so much.
