Default Sonys new receiver line

Sony is introducing new receivers that can be seen on their Sony Style website. I linked the STR-DH800 which looks like it will replace the STR-DG820, they also have replacements listed for all the receivers from the 820/720/520/197.

Personally I think they look a bit ugly, but they seem to have good functionality.

Looks almost like Sony slapped their name on the Onkyo 606.

Sony ST-DH800

Onkyo TX-SR606

Almost.

the STR-DN1000 looks like it might be the replacement for the 920. It looks pretty cool, but it also looks like it should have the name Samsung on it. It has the same look as their BD players.

In no efforts to hijack this thread, I read the 920 review linked on the article. I don't know about the lacking in the sound quality area in regards to its competitors. Wonder what speakers they are using in this review?

He did say this about the Sony over the Yamaha.

Quote:
The massive spaceship's rumbling presence had a bigger, weightier throb over the Yamaha, and the score's delicate percussive accents were cleaner sounding over the Yamaha.
Other reviewers have said they like the Sony over comparable Onkyos as well.

Wouldn't worry about it...

That shiny black face would pair up well with Samsung's BD-P1500:

Sony STR-DN1000

Samsung BD-P1500

Instead of Onkyo, perhaps Sony trying to become Samsung? "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Seems to be a whole lotta flatternizing goin' on!

[Hey, I'm just poking good-natured fun at the visual similarities. Sony makes great equipment.]

Yeah, that DN1000 is really nice looking. Kinda looks like the Harmons tho.

Remember that the sound of receivers is part subjective too, sonys tend to be neutral and yamahas more warm, so that is part of the equation of sound difference.

No worries here. I love my 920, an absolute upgrade over an Onkyo 605. I also posted that comment before I read the entire review. He stated that the Yamaha had more power when he really cranked them up.

In the little room at best buy I felt the yamaha lacked power, this is what turned me away from it and back to the sony and pioneer.

Thank you for the update, Callas! You're always on top of Sony's information.

Evidently, in all my anticipation, some of the information on Sony's upcoming receiver line was already at hand on the web! I really like the look of the STR-DN1000. As much as performance is more important over form for me, Sony was due for some improvements in their receiver "form" department. The 1000 just might be worth waiting for! That said, I want to know more - like if it has more comprehensive audio equalization. I can't wait for a few reviews to come out, let alone be able to audition one.

The new receivers under the 1000 do look blatently like the Onkyos - a little TOO much! As much as I love Sony products, I feel they could have come out with a chassis design more on the original side for the new receivers.

it looks like the Samsung receiver that was part of one of their HTIB systems.
