Default Slumdog Millionare: 1976?

Watching the film recently, I was reminded of 1976. A small film, a classic story. Boy meets girl, a shot at the top, a feel-good ride. I find it interesting. The nature of what's hip. Certain things.. go in and out of fashion. Bullet-time, Blair Witch Project, epics like Troy. But courage... Faith and redemption. ...They never go out of style. Hollywood take note.

Note: Activism isn't storytelling. Go back to basics.

Look at Slumdog Millionaire.

Yea, kind of what I was thinking. Not sure of why this was posted. There's Always been movies with a Girl meets Boy storyline, and the difficulties they endure to be together in the end or what have you, but Slumdog Mill. is Nothing like Rocky -- and if a comparison is trying to made, somebody call Kenner toys cuz' wow, talk about a serious "Stretch" (Armstrong!)

I'm sorry, I'm also not quite sure what you're getting at. You're saying that being classic is the nature of what's hip?

Please flesh out your thoughts instead of talking in buzzword-filled sentence fragments. If there's an interesting perspective to be shared, I'm all ears.

Default Old Fashioned Goodness.

Rocky (1976) and Slumdog Millionaire (2008), are pure stories. Without politics, posturing, or propaganda, there is no crusade. No larger statement, no moral to the story. No clean air or Michael Moore.

They are formula stories. ...So well made, you forget. You've seen it. You loose yourself to it. The force, the weight of both: make you care. Beyond reason or expectation… that is something.

These two were low-budget affairs. Disregarded by Hollywood (at the time of release) both became huge. Despite everything, they reached people. Touching a chord, hitting a nerve, when no one: expected anything.

They are populist entertainments. Underdog adversity, an uncaring world, finding true love, having a shot at everything; the sameness is interior. Not skin deep, look at the way... they touch audiences.

Both have been done before. Both won Best Picture, and feel... like they need to be told. Electricity is coursing through. You feel you might get scorched. Just watching them is a rush.

A simple tale... told with blistering effect. You are moved... not to think. Just to watch, and pay attention. You know everything that will happen. And yet, you feel unsure. It may be different. This time you care. Both make you believe, and pull off the impossible.

What's old is new again. That's some magic trick. Like Houdini, they make you forget.

You become lost. In the moment, in the feeling they give you... You loose your cynical shell. For just a moment, you’re six again.

That’s their bond. Their connection to each other. Most films prefer sensations or sermons. Not hypnosis or pure belief. That is the secret to both. They do.
