Default NHT Shuts down March 31, 2009....temporaraly

NHT says it must re-evaluate the audio market so it is closing its doors (with the exception of service and repair) effectively March 31,2009. Looks like another classic High End line is going to go mass market We'll see.

Sad news, but understandable I suppose in many respects. I remember their dealer network being fairly extensive back in the 70's, but they gradually faded from the showrooms. No exposure, no......you know!

Hell, it's becoming more and more difficult to find dealers for any kind of upmarket product. Everyone wants to buy at BB and the like....no one cares about audio anymore (other than a select small niche market)....it's a shame.

It is a real shame. But I wonder how many of the Best Buy or Futureshop crowd would actually be interested in high(er) end audio if they actually heard it? There's been a couple of times when people have been so impressed by my set up that they've started looking at entry level high end gear.

They usually dismiss the high end, saying that it's too expensive, or that they probably can't hear the differences. Then they hear my stuff and their whole perspective changes. Too much exposure to the usual crap sold by big box stores does that, I suppose.

People don't think high end stuff sounds much different because all the crap sold by the big box stores does sound pretty much alike, and is not very revealing. I guess that's why so many people don't think cable quality matters either. Given the crappy systems in big box stores--the audio equivelent of having TVs in torch mode--of course differences are next to impossible to hear!

I agree that is so true, With the closing of Sound Advice, (been shopping with them for over 20 years) They would always beet any price I would show them, local B&M store or online shop. They would also let me home demo gear for days. Try getting BB or an online store to do that. I will also miss the high end gear they always had on display.
