Default Sony BDP - S550 sound problem

I am running my Sony BDP S550 with an Benq w5000, and get great pictures.

But i got a problem with the sound

I got it hooked up with a Denon 3806, wich can no decode the new audio formates.

But i want the player to do so, and have a HDMI cabel inbetween the player and reciver.

I get the multichanel on the reciver, wich should indicate that its ok, and that the player is decoding.

But when i played around with 2 settings problems happend:

I tryed both mix and direct on batman the dark knight, on the beginning of chapter one, when the guy jacks of the alarm boxes padlock. When i have it on direct, i dont hear anything ther, but on mix i hear it very good..

I also played around with the settings on 48Khz/96KHZ PCM, , and put it to 96, can this have anything to do with not hearing the alarm box padlock break, in direct mode?

Also got the HDMI AUdio to auto, not 2 ch.

What is wrong her? Please help!

When you have the audio setting on mix, it is outputting the dolby digital or dts soundtrack. Direct is for the HD audio. If your reciever does not have the audio codecs, it will not output the hd track thru hdmi. You will need to connect via the analog outputs to the multi analog in on your reciever. Then set the audio to direct and you will get the hd audio. The 48/96 settings have no effect as they apply to the digital/coax out.

It is my understanding that the S550 still uses TrueHD tracks when set to Mix, but switches to the DTS core for dts-MA tracks. The Dark Knight has a TrueHD track, although the default track is DD 5.1. So, there shouldn't be any difference between Mix and Direct with that disc.

I thought it still could decode hd sound, and send it true to the denon 3806, via a hdmi cabel?

When set to Direct with HDMI, the player and receiver negotiate the "best" connection. Since the 3806 doesn't have HD decoders, the player will decode TrueHD and dts-MA for output as PCM. Secondary audio (menu clicks and PIP commentary tracks) will not be mixed in. When set to Mix, the player will decode the tracks, mix in secondary audio when present, and output PCM over HDMI. Other users have reported that the player decodes TrueHD when set to Mix, but uses the DTS core track instead of dts-MA. So, the recommended setting is Direct, which should get you lossless under all circumstances.

But, your original issue - the lack of sound on one specific scene when set to Direct - doesn't make sense to me. There's nothing in the decoding process, lossless or lossy, that would account for that particular problem.

So your saying that my denon 3806, and sony Bluerayplayer can work togheter with only a hdmi cabel, and no need to buy analog cables?

The denon CAN NOT decode the new soundformats, so the sony has to do this. So i tried mix, but then on batman begins some sounds just was VERY low, and nearly noticeble, but when at mix i heard them lound and clear. As told before, the scene in the start in batman the dark knight when they jack off the lock on the alarm box, as one example.

Yes. The S550 will work just fine with a 3806. When you select a lossless track on the disc, the player will decode it and output multichannel PCM over HDMI.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea why you get low/missing audio on some scenes when set to Direct.
