Default Burning or Making HD Trailer "Reels"

I remember asking this question for standard DVDs five years ago. Wherever I asked.. nothing but silence. My original question was:

Does anyone know how to burn a 'trailer reel' to watch with a DVD movie?

No one answered, but I eventually figured it out on my own. I would use DVD Shrink and rip the trailer from movies whenever I rented or got them on netflix (assuming, it was a cool trailer).

Once I had a small library of trailers, I could then use DVD shrink to re-compile 2 or 3 trailers together and also put the 'main feature' on the disc also minus menus and what not.

Then when I had friends over to watch a movie I would hit play and it would show some fun trailers before the movie - everyone loves this and unfortunately, have come to expect it!

Now that I have blu-ray... is it possible??!

First, I'm not sure if ripping and burning movies to blu-ray is possible yet.

I know there are burners and I have read some info on ripping blu-rays, but not sure exactly if it works 100% (can you burn a 25 or 50 gig disc without compression to a blu-ray disc? Can you remove unwanted material to make more room on the disc? Can it be done for a reasonable price?)

Anyone think this is possible?
Anyone make trailer reels like this for their movie nights?

Another possibility would be to just burn standard dvd trailer reels to dvdr and then get up and switch the discs out but rather not!

Let me understand what you want to do. You want to burn HD trailers and a BD movie into a BD-R?

fyi if you are discussing burning movies that you have rented (even if it is just the trailers) this is considered illegal and the thread will likely be closed...just a word to the wise

If you have a PS3 as BD player, what you could do is download HD trailers off official sites (which isn't illegal) and play them from the PS3's HDD. Then, when this is done, you can start the Blu-ray. It just takes a second or two to launch a BD anyway so even though it's not the same system you used to use, I think it could work for your needs.

Hmm, I do not have a PS3 although I had considered the idea of ripping the movies to a computer and then playing them back from the computer since it would eliminate the need to re-burn them on a disc.. however I don't really want to invest in hardware that would be equal to my player/amp.

I am not sure if taking a trailer off of a DVD and watching it by itself is illegal. If it is, then, I guess I'll stop talking about it if talking about it is forbidden.

It would seem that since trailers were meant to make you want to go see a movie, that the studios would not mind trailers being shown whenever or wherever.. it would be free advertising for their films. Of course, corporations don't always do what seems most logical.

Either way, I am surprised more people don't attempt to show trailers prior to watching a movie at home when they have spent thousands to replicate the movie theater experience (Like some people have foyers with popcorn machines)! Aren't the trailers a big part of that?

Tell that to the people that cry and moan about the forced trailers at the beginning of some Blu-ray discs.

Yes, this is possible. However, talking about ripping Blu-rays is forbidden and for good reason. My suggestion would be to download the 1080p trailers from Apple or Yahoo and then rip them to a separate Blu-ray disc. Since you don't have a PS3, just play the trailer BD and then the film you wish to watch after.

Perhaps, what you ultimately want to do is this........

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...464&highlight=

Please note..... this is a link to another forum, it provides instructions, as well as the person who created this will create customized ones for a small pay-pal fee..... For those curious but not to the point of checking the link, it's a custom intro with sound Demo, theater name, specs... etc.... whatever you want really.... it's similar to the "Quiet, no Cell Phones" or "visit our snack-bar" intros you see when out at the cinema.....

If this is against any rules, I apologize.... but I encourage you to either use the information provided by this person, or purchase your own intro from him, but do not steal his (he provides a full download) and manipulate it and claim it as your own......

For a media server/PS3, etc.... you basically set it up to run on default prior to the movie starting...... I planned on getting one, but decided it wasn't necessary for me..... either way... there it is.

Are you going to show commercials too?

I would LOVE to show some OLD commercials... like maybe some commercials for the Atari 2600 that are out there.

Even more excellent would be to get some of those corny "Smiles... Pass it on!" spots that they show in some theathers. The best one is where the guy drops the $20 bill and then the kid picks it up and they make it look like he's going to pocket it, then he gives it back and everone smiles and gives eachother a high five... character.. pass it on!!

Unfortunately there is probably not a lot of good material available in hi-def. Sounds like that guy on the avs forumn has the right idea to get some mastering software and make his own intros.

Thanks for the links, I guess it is still not a common practice. I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out when the technology becomes available (maybe it is). As mentioned, I had it all worked out for SD but blu-ray has come along now I have to ugprade!

Here are some other fun ones I would love to show along with a movie:
