Default Astro Boy

This looks cool. Lots of big names doing the voice work. What do you think?

Yes the voice casting was a bit of a shock when I downloaded the preview from Apple.com 3 weeks ago. I am up for it, always love Astro Boy, even have the 1980 anime on DVD.

I dont know. I have never followed anime, so I am very unfamiliar with the studios, directors and writers etc.

I just love anime but I could not give you details on directors and artist like a lot of others could I just enjoy the stories of anime. I only reach a geek or nerd level when it come's to Star Wars with that I am terrible

I looking forward to seeing this on theaters, the numbers of big names for voice lead's me to believe it will have a rather large release in North America and that is rare for anime. But it's Astro Boy and it's always been one of the more popular ones.

IMAGI Studios...from Wiki

Imagi Animation Studios (SEHK: 0585) was established in 2000 by Imagi International Holdings Limited, a listed company on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The company has a studio in Chai Wan, Hong Kong, as well as a creative development and production facility in Los Angeles, California and a satellite office in Tokyo.

The company's first major CG-animated theatrical movie, TMNT was released March 23, 2007 by Warner Bros. in the U.S. and Canada, opening No. 1 at the box office, and is being distributed internationally by The Weinstein Company. Imagi's focus is to create high-quality CG-animated feature films with superhero themes to entertain global audiences, which the company achieves by combining Hollywood storytelling with Hong Kong high-tech?[clarification needed] animation.

Wow. I was wondering when this was gonna be brought out. I'm kinda glad that they went the computer animation route. It looks pretty awsome.

Astro Boy is one of the landmarks of what its now japanese animation, even though it started as a comic book. The style of that book helped define anime. Sign me up!

I don't know about this. I'm aware many people don't know how important Astro Boy (Mighty Atom) is to modern Anime, so i'll just post a sentence from a movie called "The History of Anime" played during Otakon '07:

"In the beginning there was Astro Boy..."

I guess you are saying that if it is too Pixarfied, then it is an insult to its roots/origins? It should retain a more true anime look? I can see how that might trouble hardcore anime fans.

IMAGI Studios had some financial troubles recently which put this project on hold if you guys didn't know. So I'm really really pleased that they got some funding, because this is one of the very few animations I'm looking forward to this year.

Well, from what I saw in the trailer, there seems to be a mix of east and west. The backgrounds, and the scientists that show up in the trailer look like Pixar 100%. The scientists remind me of The Incredibles and Rataouille which are the Pixar films that feature humans so far. Astro Boy on the other hand looks very faithful to the comic which has extremely pumped up.

If the complete film maintains that mix I think it has the potential to be something great: a modern film that pays true homage to the past. OF course the story has to be there as well.
