I could have put this in the Hot deals section but I think it would serve this thread better. Heres the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...L0E-_-27136137
Plays all formats including the defunct aka dead HD-DVD format, and since its PC based it will also play HD-WMV formats (I happen to have some 1080p HD-WMV Imax films - Amazon still sells these) this is why I like having my BD player in my PC. Free media is included with a purchase ![]() Last edited by prerich; 03-20-2009 at 01:27 PM. |

Also - Pioneer has an 8x drive for $199.99... minus the HD DVD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827129037 I'm looking into getting one for an external enclosure. |

Both the OP and the dadkins post above mine are good news. This might be a good option for me for my upstairs/master bedroom HTPC when I build it. I'd get to consolidate greatly if I didn't need a standalone BD player. Wouldn't save a lot of money really, but I'd get the added bonus of backing up all my family videos and pictures on a couple discs.

That's a great burner. My friend uses it and he has never made a coaster yet even with RiDATA lol. Actually, it was $179 a couple of days ago.
I'm thinking about getting the Pioneer 8x burner though as I like their DVD burners. |

That same burner is available at a computer store I go to for $228 Australian Dollars, so that would be $156 US Dollars!

Mine is coming in tomorrow. I always wanted a BD drive for my PC when they got to the right price (reasonable performance at $199). I did the same thing for CD and DVD drives. Q6600 and GTX 260 with 21" ASUS 1080p, it should be a nice fit.

This burner is incredible...especially to laser enthusiasts. The BR diode in there has been pushing 512mW (or half a watt) of violet laser light from a hobbyist over at the LPF for a while now, they are definitely powerful! It's going to be even better when they drop in price. Half a watt of violet laser light is no small potato. To give everybody here a idea, the red lasers you generally see in pointers are usually 5mW or less.
I know that's not what you guys are doing with them...but they are a huge breakthrough for powerful violet diodes. ![]() http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...m=1236464366/0 |
