Default Digital copies --- must you have a BD-drive to access them?

This is probably an obvious answer, but I just wanted to check.

I do not have a BD-drive.

Does that mean I cannot reap the benefits from digital copies from, say, Bolt or the Dark Knight?

I have a variety of blu-rays that have come with DC. I have yet to access this feature though. I guess partly because I don't want to decide between Itunes and other options right off the bat. I can imagine I'll only end up using the DC during travel - which I haven't been affording lately.

i ripped all my movies through itunes to an MP4 file (because it would be that through WMP anyway) and i just left em on my hard drive for whenever i need them.

No need for a BD-drive. I have 40+ Digital Copies & love them. My wife & I both have iphones along with most of my family members & friends, so they works out great. If I did not have an iphone/ipod I would probably not care for them as much. They are a life saver when your stuck in an Airport for 12+hrs thats for sure.

I'm traveling soon - so I'll have to get out my DC discs and try this.

Can it play like a regular DVD in a DVD player?

How is the PQ on a laptop?

No, its not a DVD Video disc. its a DVD-Rom disc that holds the files for the digital copies. You use the code to authorize the transfer of the digital file and its copied from the disc to your hard drive.

How is the PQ on a laptop?

Close to DVD quality. Bolt is 853x480 for the iTunes copy, most iTunes digital copies are 853x480. I have ripped my own personal DVDs are a lower setting to save on disc space and they are still watchaable on my laptop.

In fact, these lower quality rips look better than Netflix's instant streaming 90% of the time.

Ok. Thanks for the answers Steve.

Hopefully, this works ok with Vista.
