Okay, I just watched Rambo last night and I was very impressed, but it was 2:40 aspect ratio which is fine with me I am not here to start the black bar argument, but I watched the deleted scenes and they are 1:78.
I thought the aspect ratio was dependent on how the movie was shot, so how can the deleted scenes be different? |

Some movies can be shot in Super35 which is a process that mattes the image to the proper frame. When shooting Super35, the negative aspect ratio is generally 1.37:1. This image is then matted to 2.40:1.
Rambo was shot Super35 so the 1.37:1 negative was matted to 2.40:1 for the theatrical and intended aspect ratio. Since Lionsgate included the deleted scenes in HD, instead of fully completing and processing the scenes at the proper AR with the proper color timing, the BD producer simply matted it to 1.78:1. |
