I dunno how I feel about it. I think I'll stick with traditional console gaming for a long time to come. It's frustrating enough when I get kicked out of a online match of Killzone 2, let alone the entire game I might be playing.
I just don't think the demands it calls for in terms of internet power are where they need to be yet. Something about it just seems too good to be true, I don't even like the quality of downloaded/streaming "HD" content, and they want to stream games? Doesn't seem realistic yet. The concept is pretty cool though. |

I truly and sincerely do not understand the desire of consumers to want everything downloaded and streamed. For music and movies it may be nice, but I'd rather stream it locally. Watching adn listening to meida "on demand" from my PC on my TV (using the PS3) is great, but I still like buying discs from the get-go. Downloading a small game here and there for the PS3 is nice, but ultimately I try to hold back because you know what will happen in a few years... it will no longer be playable. That being said, I can certainly understand why content providers are pushing it. They decide what, how, when, and where you can play.
Remember the SEGA channel? What happens when they decide a game you like playing isn't popular enough to store and stream any longer? You're out of luck. Not to mention that this won't work in the real world (yet). Broadband penetration is not there. The next generation of game consoles will still use discs primarily. Handheld consoles probably will not. DLC will still be a cash-cow. OnLive will be DOA. So do I need to tell you what I think about this? ![]() |

First here is a link to a cnet article about On Live:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-10797_3-10...CmoreStories.0 Second i really don't think it will work at least not yet. I mean i still prefer a disc that i can hold in my hand. Then there's broadband issues and like bilbravo said what if they decide your game is not popular enough and take it down. For me my internet connection is not reliable at night when i play online. O well let them try, it wont hurt anything! |

here's some video interview from gametrailers:
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/11029.html I think its looks promising. I have a rock solid internet connection and being able to play high quality PC games like crysis on a $800 laptop is quite attractive. |

What about all of those people who don't have or want the internet at their homes. I like playing online and it's the only reason I have the internet at my house. If I decide to cancel my internet... will I still be able to use OnLive? I'm on the cpu all day at work, so no need to use it when I'm at home.

All 4 or 5 of those people? Chances are if you don't want the internet at your house, you probably don't play many games. If you buy tons of $60 games, paying $50 a month for the internet probably isn't unreasonable.

I think it's a crock of bull. Look at how long it takes to connect to BD-live on day one. Look how long it takes to download a World of Warcraft patch. Look at how long demos take to download even from Xbox Live.
I'm sure it works beautifully on a network that no one else is using. I also bet that in "mass release" it bombs because NO ONE gets enough bandwidth to actually play the game. |

I agree. I also think that the Blu-ray people need to come up with a system to allow us to transfer full 1080P lossless audio digital copies to our home network to allow streaming from the PS3 or other compatible devices. Give us a "coverflow" type of app that will allow us to to display our entire movie collection on the big screen, complete with cover art and movie descriptions. IMO, that is where the real appeal in digital downloads lies; having your catalogue digitally accessible. If Blu-ray offers us that now.... they can head off the popularity of digital downloads before the infrastructre reaches a place where digital downloads and streaming can rival blu-ray quality. I will gladly contine to buy the discs if I am given a conevenient and legal way to access my content digitally, but if a system like this never comes to fruition.... I WILL be switcing to downloads or streaming the very instant it becomes a viable competitor quality wise. |

You have to think outside of the box. Not everyone has or wants the internet. If you come to my old neighborhood, hardly anyone has the internet. It is possible to own a XBox and not a laptop. Hell, I didn't even have the internet until my friends started playing online, I just used the cpu at work. And you can't compare "choosing" to buy a $60 game to "having" to pay a $50/month bill. So since I bought my cousin a 360 for Christmas, he should make his parents buy a cpu so he can play online. There are cpu's at his school library.

The main reason people don't have the internet is probably because of the cost (or the benefits don't outweigh the costs). So if cost is the issue, what sane person would spend $300 on an Xbox, and $60 per game, if they can get a cheap computer with internet access and a subscription to OnLive, and have access to every Xbox game? If you buy 1-2 games per year, then maybe OnLive wouldn't save you money. But if you play 1-2 games per year, you probably wasted money on the Xbox in the first place. |
