I understood that new movies had to be shot with HD cameras to become an HD or bluray movie. Why is it then you can now get alot of the older films on bluray/HD discs?

HD discs allow you to store more information. This allows a higher resolution to be shown.
Think of it like picture files on your computer. The higher resolution pictures are larger file sizes. BTW: I don't think there are that many films shot in HD. Anyone care to name them? |

This question pops up regularly, so try searching for more threads about this in the movie section, but here's 2 old threads I found:
Are oldies going to be goodies on BD? How do they make older movies into Blu-Ray DVDs? In sumary, what you call old films were shot in 35mm film or 70mm film. Today's films are shot in 35mm film. 35mm film negatives can hold more resolution that what you see on HD (and what you see in 35mm prints in theaters). 70mm film negatives 3 to 5 times that. |
