Default 60inch and bigger!

Hi, I'm currently looking to buy a new TV. Looking for something thats at least 60inch. Been reading a lot of stuff on here and I'm still not sure whats the best tv out there for that size, I saw a good Samsung 63inch but not totally sure. If anyone has any suggestions on what to get, please let me know

Displays get real expensive > 52", it seems...might help to know what you want to spend. If you only want to spend about $3K, you'll be Sh*t out of luck. a 60" plasma is going to be very heavy as well.

after 60 inch, would people start recommending projector screens instead? Or would these be more expensive?

I really think if you're going >52", you should consider projector. Marantz is truly a good one.

Yeah, i was also thinking about getting a projector. But if you check my HT gallery, the only real place to put the screen is where the TV is at the moment, only problem with that is, there is a big window behind where the screen would be. I know this can be sorted out with a black curtain or something.

Since I'm not too educated about projectors, How does natural light effect the projector when viewing? Also because the house I'm in is a rental, how does not ceiling mounting the actual projector make a difference?

So, would it be worth while still getting the 60+ inch plasma, or just get a projector?

Id go with a projector. The natural light could be very easily blooked out using some curtain lining (also called blackout cloath, just make sure you use three ply), which can also be used as a screen (it's what I use for my screen). Is there any toher sources of light entering you're room bar that on door/window. If not I can't imagine why you woul docnsider going anything but a good front projection system.

What is your budget if you don't mind me asking?

Light kills projected images..... you'll certainly have to sacrifice your rooms' aesthetics in order to control your light.....

But yeah... 60+ inch plasmas aren't cheap..... I think there is a pretty hefty jump from 58" to the next larger models.... you may want to consider settling ( ) for a 58"

EDIT:

I just looked at your gallery.... I think I'd stick with the T.V. you have, and upgrade your audio.... 60" Plasmas will drop in price a lot in a couple of years..... so if you have the money and you're looking for some sort of upgrade.... Audio would be a better choice right now.

Let's remember that even Vizio is dropping their plasma line, as well as Samsung and atleast one other. Plasma is going to die out in ~6 months IMO. The same with DLP. Here's a thought though, if you're not stuck on a plasma consider a LED DLP...you can get a 67" for < 1800 IIRC. I love my DLP, they offer the best bang for the buck when it comes to screen size. BTW, DLP is on it's way out, too. So perhaps there could be some deals to be had with either display tech.

Pioneer is dropping out of making all TVs within the year and Hitachi is dropping out of the making of Plasmas. I do not think that Samsung has made any such announcement or has any such intentions. I believe that the 2 big makers of Plasma will continue to be Panasonic and Samsung. Additionally, I highly doubt that Plasma TVs will die out in anything like 6 months. They may not be the largest share of large flat screens or even large HD TVs made, but many discriminating buyers, Blu-ray owners, Home Theater enthusiasts, reviewers, etc. consider these to be the finest TVs presently available.

I got my sammie for $1000!! I don't think any deals that good have come along since and they are running low on stock, but if you look around you could probably find one aroun $1200. Once i upgrade my AVR and center channel, i believe i will have the best HT under $2800 anywhere in the world!!

^^^ thank you for letting Him know that Sammy was not getting out of the Plasma game. As far as a new display I'd look at the pioneers for sure. Also don't diss-miss the 58" panasonic. The OP has not mentioned a budget, if any? Panasonic has a 65" plasma that would be nice for your HT.

Are you insinuating that i've mislead him? My Sammie is the LED DLP, and yes, they are being discontinued. Simply cuz he didn't state a budget, doesn't mean we all need to chime in with the obvious "Get a Kuro, or Panny plasma" routine. In these times, even people with money probably want the most bang for their buck, and it's hard to deny(even with all it's "faults") that the sammy LED DLP's provide just that. 61" 1080p for around a grand. C'mon.

He's not talking to you bro, simmer down. His response was pertaining to the poster with incorrect info about samsungs line of plasmas. And uh, i didn't read anywhere in his post anything about DLP's, least of all whether or not your model is still being made. C'mon.

I'm not sure what your budget is so I'll assume it to be around $3000. THIS Sharp 65" LCD is an option for $3100 shipped. THIS Samsung 63" plasma is the same price shipped. THIS Samsung 67" LED projection is $1600 shipped. THIS 60" LG plasma is three grand shipped. If money is no object then THIS Pioneer is the set for you coming in at just under $5000. If that's not big enough then THIS 65" Panasonic is the next best thing. Its about $200 cheaper than the Pioneer.
