David Cronenberg ("A History of Violence") says he's planning on doing a sequel to his 2007 thriller "Eastern Promises".

"We [he and Viggo Mortensen] are moving forward with it. We all are excited about the idea of doing a sequel" said the director in an interview with MTV News.

"We are going to have a meeting very soon between me, Steve Knight [writer] and Paul Webster [producer] to discuss what the script would be. I have some very strong ideas about what I would like to see, but I would like to hear what they have to say as well. And then after that, if all goes well, Steve goes away and writes a great script. If we all like it, we make it" added Cronenberg.

The acclaimed original feature dealt with a Russian teenager living in London who dies during childbirth. She leaves clues to a midwife (Naomi Watts) in her journal that could tie her child to a rape involving a violent Russian mob family.

This is awesome news. If you havent seen Eastern Promises go buy it. DONT RENT IT. You will want to watch this movie again. Had it on HD DVD sold it and got the BD version. Very good PQ. Hopefully they make the sequal as good as the original.

Its a badass movie... And there is a naked dude in it for a scene lol thats what I referred to in 2009

It doubled its budget and I'd label it has a cult following...

Well there is still work for Nikolai to do as far as his undercover op goes, so the potential of a sequel is strong. At first I was dumbfounded as to why they'd a sequel to the meager first film, even though I love it. So all in all, I'm on board.

I'd love to see them take Mortensen further into the dark

I think we could get an even more amazing film if they do that

It says they're filming in Russia, so I think they will be taking him deeper into the rathole.

Funny story on the blu-ray when Mortensen got off work on the first film he still had some of the tattoos on and he was listening to a couple out in public speaking russian and he heard them just stop talking and he noticed they looked spooked from seeing his tats cause they knew what they meant

I look forward to this! I hope they do a better BD release of #1 to coincide with #2 coming out in theatres.
