how come EA sports games are in 720p and not 1080p - Blu-ray Forum

Drives me nuts that the games are in 720p!!! when do you think 1080p games will be out?

hopefully all the 2010 titles will be, i know how you are feeling when i bought madden 09 and then played it, i could tell it wasnt 1080p and wheen check back it was only 720p very dissapointted in that!

Why exactly does it matter? Killzone 2 is native 720P, and I don't hear anyone complaining about that one.

It would be better if EA kept the games 720p and instead introduced better textures, dynamic lighting/shadows, and 4X anti-aliasing.

I think they should focus on gameplay first. I'm tired of those recycled Maddens. However, Fight Night Round 4 is looking really good. I'm not sure if it's gonna be in 1080p, but the videos and screenshots look tight.

It isn't as simple as just getting them to run in 1080p. You have to make sure the framerate will stay above 30fps. If that means sacrificing 1080p and going for 720p I am fine with that.

Because they're cross platform. And for some reason, the PS3 version of a cross platform game is not allowed to sport the extra muscle of the PS3 because that would be somehow 'unfair'.

PS3 exclusives aren't always 1080p. Many aren't. But you might notice that the 360 has basically no 1080p titles besides simple games, and the PS3 has an increasing number of them. GT5P in particular proves that the PS3 platform can do heavyweight game play, graphics, and resolution at the same time. The 360 simply does not have the power to go there.

As far as I know most games on the PS3 aren't in 1080p. As mentioned previously GT5P is and so is WipeoutHD (I'm sure there are others but don't know what they are off the top of my head). Now both of those are fast moving and/or have lots going on at once and the PS3 seems to handle them just fine so I'm sure we'll see more games in 1080p in the future. But games that aren't 1080p hardly look bad do they? I'm thinking Killzone2, Resident Evil 5, Uncharted or MGS4 (and others too).

1080P only becomes noticeable on a 40"+ TV anyways. So if you playing on a 26" or something, it ain't gonna look that much different!

Doesn't bother me that much tbh, as said gameplay over graphics.

yah but most of the EA sports games arn't good... haha i c bugs in them all the time.. and for madden it's not like "if u dnt like it than dnt buy the game" cuz EA bought the rights to football... i think they have 720p cuz they are lazy they know the games will sell no matter what all they have to do is change a thing or two and wait til next year...

What I don't understand is why people who truly believe Gameplay trumps graphics are on a Blu-Ray web site.

DVDs are the same story. Why did you bother to upgrade to Blu-Ray?

My thoughts exactly. Some people say it doesn't matter if graphics aren't up to par as long as the gameplay is there, but complain if a Blu-ray encode isn't perfect. By their logic the picture quality doesn't matter as long as the film is good, so why do you need anything better than a DVD, or even a VHS if 'graphics' aren't important.

nah we are just saying y not give us both... I mean it's the PS3 suppose to be next gen but the games are 720p and when it comes to madden there are 4 of them so far on PS3 and non are 1080p how long will it take?? i think they just dnt care and r milkin us out

i agree both is optimal BUT they havent yet learned to give us the graphics combined with the gameplay without the game being an abysmal <30fps so in that case .. give me the lessar graphics , gameplay and >30fps

Did you even READ what I wrote? I demand BOTH. Don't give me crap about how I'll choose a bad gameplay game. I won't. I also won't choose a bad graphics game. I repeat, I *DEMAND* both. You on the other hand will settle on an inferior product for some unknown reason. An unknown reason that you can't really define, but sure are ready to rationalize.
