Downey Jr Reveals no 'Demon in a Bottle' for Iron Man 2

With “Iron Man 2” shooting set to begin on Monday, Robert Downey Jr. was rocking the Tony Stark look at the “Soloist” junket today, where he had an update for MTV News about the plot of ol’ Shellhead’s sequel.

Fans were anxious earlier this years when news broke of the films (I kid you not) toilet design, and knowing that the film will open to Iron-vomiting caused many of to speculate that the blockbuster’s follow-up might go for the famous alcoholism storyline, “Demon in a Bottle,” which originally appeared in “Iron Man” issues #120-128 in 1979.

When asked if the film was based on this famous story arc, Downey told MTV News, “Not really.”

“As a matter of fact, I think that’s probably best saved,” said Downey, “ because it’s such its own storyline.”

This matches Jon Favreau’s thoughts last year that, while “Demon in a Bottle” may come one day, it doesn’t need to be in “Iron Man 2”. Hopefully, Downey has quite a few “Iron Man” films ahead of him.

So, what is the storyline, outside major cast additions?

“We’re going for the interim space [between the origin and “Demon”],” explained Downey, “which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he’s Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero.”

Hopefully they're realizing how much they can do with the character and are excited about the extended future of the character.

i'm not sure how i feel about this...on 1 hand i was really looking forward to this storyline and the psychological exploration of downey's in regards to his new superhero complex. but on the other hand, alcoholism doesn't seem to really fit into what jon favreau has done with the character thus far (imo), so as downey stated it might be best to hold off for now. i'm still excited nevertheless, i think 2 will be a great sequel.

I think it would be much better if they build up to it. Have him drink a little too much as this movie progresses and set it up for the next film.

same jumping right into things usually doesn't work maybe have him crash a car towards the end or something...

I have a bridge I can sell you if anyone thought they were going to make a story about alcoholism the central idea for a summer blockbuster. This is escapist fantasy for the masses...

Just hope the next one ends better, thought the way they beat that huge suit at the end of the first one was very lame.

I agree. I definitely want to see the story line on the big screen, but not sure if #2 is the best time for it. 3 could be though. Can't wait for the next Ironman

Looks like he and Cheadle are the only ones confirmed for that 2012 movie.

That's great thanks. I thought they officially fired Sam Jackson from the Nick Fury role, because the Spirit sucked so bad; it still has him listed as rumored on imdb, thats weird.

Though this news saddens me, it does not take away from my expectations for Iron Man 2. Still will go see it and have very high hopes for it to surpass the first one.

Yeah this movie will still be good either way there are so many good storylines to with its cool to wait.Heck I can't wait for Civil War and they styill have not even introduced most of the characters
