Default Samsung BD-P1200 Issue

Does anyone else have an issue with this player where it'll show static on the screen, flicker, show static, flicker, then show the movie picture? This seems to happen on my player more and more. Someone mentioned issues with the HDCP handshake and the player/tv having trouble making it; any truth to that? How can I correct it? My tv is a pioneer PRO-FHD1.

I'm seriously considering returning this player because this is way out of hand. Last night I was watching Pirates 1 and it kept doing this repeatedly. It would flicker, static, flicker, static, flicker, static, etc. Finally after like 10 flickers it got the picture.

I am sorry you are experiencing problems with the Samsung BD-P1200 when connected to the PRO-FHD1. If you have installed the latest firmware update for your Samsung model and the HDCP handshaking issue is still a problem then I would recommend returning the Samsung if it still under the 30 day return policy (You could exchange it to make sure its not just a defective player but most likely another Samsung player will do the same thing.)
The Pioneer PRO-FHD1 is currently the only flat screen with true 1080P resolution with a 1080P/24 input that refreshes at multiplies of the original frame. I am in shock that Samsung would not have tested this product on a Pioneer display before releasing it. There is no LCD panel with this 1080P/24 feature yet, only this Pioneer plasma product and several ceiling mounted Front Projectors have the feature. Also only one rear projector from NuVision has true 1080p/24 mode.

Here is the original link to info on the HDCP issue between the Samsung BD-P1200 and Pioneer PRO-FHD1

If you do return the Samsung player, I would recommend getting the Sony Playstation 3 for $599. If you do get the PS3 then upgrade the firmware to version 1.8 so that you can use the 1080P/24 feature in the PS3. Pioneer also a has their nice Elite BLU-RAY player which would be ideal for your Pioneer Plasma.

BOTTOM LINE If your main goal is getting top-notch video performance from a Blu-ray Disc player, Pioneer's BDP-HD1 is the one to buy. Of the four players I've tested so far, this model was by far the picture-quality standout”

Unfortunately I'm past the 30 day return window so my options are:

1) Call Samsung and ask for repair/replacement under MFG Warranty
2) Sell on Flea-bay and buy a PS3

The Pioneer player is way too overpriced - I paid $600 for my sammy...and if anything I'd get the new sony. The samsung works well but its just annoying as hell when it acts up. Eventually it gets its act together and sometimes exhibits no issue at all. I wonder if getting a reciever in between the TV and the player would help...

I have not had a problem with the Sammy 1200 (yet) I would contact Samsung and try to get a replacement. It is a good machine . Or like you said, go for the $499. new Sony model.

Since this is a known issue with the only 1080P/24 Pioneer Plasma on the market then hopefully Samsung will be able to fix the HDCP issue with a firmware update. If they do not release a firmware update soon then you could sale it on EBAY but you might only get $400 for it since it is used. The Samsung is not defective, all of the BD-P1200 have the HDCP issue when connected to that model of Pioneer Plasma’s.
Also the new Pioneer BDP-94HD Elite model is $500 cheaper then the pervious model and will include two exclusive Extended cut movies for the first 2,500 players sold.

Personally 95% of the Pioneer products I have had there has not been any major problems. They have very good quality control.
