Trailer looked sweet. Have been keeping tabs on this game. Can't wait for it to come out, definitely will give it a chance. Obsidian is a good studio, so I give them the benefit of the doubt on this game.

I am looking forward to this game. The plot is similar to Mission Impossible.

Saw a stream of someone playing this game yesterday. Sadly, it didn't look very good. Mediocre graphics, some really stiff animations, wooden voice acting, no physics to speak of, some really dumb AI....

I was so looking forward to this game but now I'm not sure. It has gone from a Day 1 purchase to waiting for some reviews before I decide.

Might pick this one up after a price drop, it looks fairly original and interesting.

Yup! Cancelled mine, too. Just watching the gameplay video at Gametrailers irritated me.

Have any of you actually tried this instead of just giving up based on reviews/videos?

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but I like it. Yes, some of the mechanics are a bit wonky. Yes, it's got glitches. And yes, the graphics aren't the best.

But for some reason it's appealing to me anyway. I think they were going for Mass Effect with spies and missed, but the end result is still fun, to me at least.

Maybe the glitches get worse and I haven't hit any of the big ones. Of course, I spent ages playing Fallout 3, so I might be willing to put up with more than most.

Why do people say this when a game gets terrible reviews? Reviews are normally reasonable, often slightly inflated, sometimes overly negative, but in general they tell you if a game is worth getting very well...

Not everyone has gamefly, or $10 to rent, or $60 to try it out, so we rely on REVIEWS...

I was thinking about this game, but there is little chance now.

Indeed. A games that gets 6 out of 10 usually has reviewers struggling to find nice things to say.

Furthermore, the comments I read above are more about whether a game with mediocre reviews merits a pre-order or purchase as a new release. Better to wait for feedback from real users to decide whether it might be worth a purchase. I'm still playing RD:R and have others on my shelf. If it ranked a 9.5, It would be there with them. I can probably pick it up in a trade later, if I want it.

Admittedly, there are movies that get slammed, that I agree totally suck when I watch them, but still completely enjoy.

If it's a really good game, Terjyn can try and convince me I need to play it. But I'm going to be mad every time I have the reticle on the middle of a guy's chest, pull the trigger, and the roll of the die says I missed.

What the hell, I'm one of the biggest supporters of reviews being worthwhile, and have made your exact argument quite a number of times.

All I was asking, is if IN THIS CASE, anyone here was actually playing the game.

I wasn't saying the reviews were wrong, or the game was worth it anyway. Good lord. If you ask me if this game is worth buying blind I'd say hell no, rent it first or you'll probably be disappointed.

And I specifically mentioned Mass Effect because it too had the "Aim, roll a die, oops you miss anyway" thing.

Heaven forbid I try to start a conversation on a game I happen to like. Next time I'll ask your permission first.

I bought Alpha Protocol last night. I knew the reviews were pretty so-so but loved Neverwinter Nights and KOTOR II, so figured they would do a good enough job for me to be satisfied. Please keep in mind, I was absolutely pumped, PUMPED for this.

The game feels like someone made it who didn't have the slightest idea what they were doing. Movements are really jerky, animations are stuttery and very poor, aiming is atrocious, the game feels like it was half way done. I thought a stealth RPG was such an awesome idea, I was dead wrong.....

I know some people are saying that it's brilliant an all reviewers are wrong, I'm guessing their simply making the best out of their investment. I really thought it was going to be good, I hate it

Mass Effect didn't have anything like that. If you picke a weapon your character sucked with, the you sucked. Simple as that in Mass effect.

Not the best game in the world, but I am having fun with it. Definitly worth a rent if you have the means.

The only problem I have with your post is that.

Now what I think you meant by this is that you have other games to play so you would only buy Alpha Protocol if it was highly praised, which I understand.

But something that I really hate about this gen is how people feel that if a game does not receive a 9+/10 or 4 stars then the game isn't good enough. So many people base their judgement of games off of the scores of critics, who often have a bias towards a single dev, console or series. A lot of great games fail because of this.

Just something to think about.
