Default HELP setting up reciever and 5.1 system (first timer)

i hope someone out there can help me out....

i just purchased sony's dg820 along with the energy take classic speaker system and just finished all the wiring and stuff...

and when i tested out my cable box .... the only audio i could get was my left speaker. im not expecting 5.1 out of my cable box or anything. but i at least thought id get left and right (2.0 /2.1) audio since im not using a mono audio cable.

i have yet to test out my htpc and ps3 yet because i need to pick up a few more hdmi's and i refuse to hook em up otherwise.

so ..... till then ...... HELP!

Did you run test tones to make sure all of your connections were good?

i agree. always run test tones when you first hook everything up. it just verifies you have all the channels hooked into the right spots.

You should have an option on your receiver call "Test Tone". When you run it do you get sound out of all of your speakers?
