PS3 really needs more killer-app games fast! It's been pretty dry lately in the gaming department. I feel as though it's taking forever before we get games like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, etc...

I'm amazed the Wii continues to sell as much as it does. I've played the bowling and baseball games briefly and it just seemed like a kids console. Is there anything "next gen" about this over the gamecube/ps2 era consoles?

It is not just here in states, but places like Japan, a country that loves the newest best tech stuff, the Wii is kicking ass.

Wii-
2.56m Japan
3.12m America
2.04m Others
Total-7.72 million

PS3-
0.93m Japan
1.46m America
0.93m Others
Total-3.32 million

Just think, if Nintendo can get their production problems ( can't make enough) handled by the holidays, have the stores stocked with Wii, based on the price, they could sell 5 million of them just for X-Mas time, plus they should have plenty of new game out by then, the new Super Mario is coming out in November, hell, the new Pokemon game for the Wii is coming out in June, if folks think Pokemon is old and does not sell, the new titles for the DS, Diamond/Pearl are already over 6 million sold, 2,388,321 in the states alone and it just came out the end of April.

My best bet is that most people will end up having a wii with either their 360s or ps3s. Everytime after i get tired of playing my ps3 i go straight back to my wii.

2 things wrong with what you are trying to imply or build up to....

1) Based on price alone ($600 v $250), there should be a unit sales differential of 2.4:1. If we multiply the PS3 unit totals by that factor we get 7.97MM Wii units. So in reality, Wii is UNDERPERFORMING on a price elasticity basis.

2) You would expect a sales differential like this based not only on price but also how many people (or lack of people is more like it) have really committed to hi-def and therefore to true next gen consoles. The Wii is not really a next-gen console and not truly a competitor to PS3 or 360... at least not any more than the portables are a direct competitor. As others have mentioned, I see it more as a complimentary product. We always had a PS2 AND a GameCube in our house.

the wii as newest gen? are you kidding me? all it is is a supped up game cube with a crappy remote. the only reason so many sell is the price point and ease to manufacture. it has nothing to do with being "the newest best tech stuff"

I agree, I never said that the Wii was newest gen, I am just amazed that a country like Japan would accept it like it was, a souped up gamecude, but based on the sales over there, they love it while the PS3 is now the ugly child.

And I would point out to you yet again, the PS3 is exactly where you would expect it to be in Japan on a price parity basis. You keep trying to make an invalid point and think it becomes stronger by just repeating yourself.

Default to some people it`s just nintendo

Like it has ever mattered, it`s pure nintendo goodness just based on that it will sell units (especially in japan)mario, pokemon, zelda, these are household names people have grown up with ,sure pricepoint generally nintendo has always been the cheapest,is it more like a kids console ...you bet...we were all once kids ,remember. The fact nintendo does the #`s it does is not suprising at all ,look at the DS the pricepoint for a parent to buy it for their kids is optimal, and parents relate to nintendo which=sales because they are familiar with the name. Gamers
buy 360 and ps3 parents will always opt for the cheaper ,its an ever expanding market nintendo has always talked about a media home experience but every system they go out on their own and innovate just enough to keep people interested without going out too far into the unventured waters or beyond pricepoint .

pricepoint is always a concern especially in japan and always has been ,you do have to take that into consideration when it comes to the #`s

I liked the bowling and hated the baseball...

trhe bowling felt realistic....we're fools because we do the whole 'acting out the motions' when we'd bowl....instead of just flicking our wrists...

especially when inebriated, it's not bad....

but I wouldn't own a Wii as it's only really fun in group settings...

It is amazing that one generation (GameCube) completely flops, while something that is, as you say, really a souped of version of it suddenly explodes. Go figure the fickle consumer?

But, who is buying the Wii? I very much doubt they are being snapped up by people that would have otherwise purchased a PS/3.

alot of the people buying Wii's don't purchase many games....

think about it...they bought the Wii because of a gimmick and cheap price.....how many games can MOST of these people own?

People who are buying a Wii and making it explode like this are those who didn't game before. Old people, parents, etc. Nintendo expanded the total market for themselves with the WII and that is why its selling so well for so long. What old person will go out and buy a PS3?

Wrong, wrong and wrong.

For the month of May, total software sold in units
Wii-1,466,828 ( almost a 50% attach rate)
PS3-575,430 (close to a 39% attach rate)
360-1,623,210 (close to a 25% attach rate)

These are all United States #, thanks to VGChartz for the info.
