Question help finding an affordable HD reciever.

I currently own a Sony str- DE597 which is a 6.1 Channel DTS surround reciever and incorporates pro-logic II as well.

I would love any suggestions on an affordable HD receiver that will decode all the new Digital Audio formats found on blu ray. I have a full complement of surround gear to go with my unit, but feel with the newer audio formats I'm not really getting the bang for my buck.

Also if anyone knows much about the Sony that I own, and has any suggestions on setup to improve my audio quality that would be great. Thanks forum dwellers

I really don't have a set budget yet, and haven't been out price hunting lately at all. Maybe you can give me a heads up as to how much I should be looking at.? Since I bought my current receiver which is about 3 years ago, I have been out of the loop.

can you give us an idea of your budget?

The yamaha rx-v 663 or the Onkyo 606 are both solid performing receiers which offer all the newest codecs and can be found for under $400.00. If you are considering adding a separate amp down the road then the yammy 663 would be your option because it has preouts.

Check out the official Yamaha RX-v663 thread, it will offer you alot of resource ful info.

I'm glad someone started this thread so I didnt have to clutter up the forum with another.

Does anyone know when that $300 Pioneer receiver comes out this month? I read the CNET article and it said April, but no specific date was given. OP, this is probably the receiver you're looking for. For $300 you get DTS-Master/True-HD capabilities along with a host of other options.

what ever you get do not buy at best buy. go for amazon or ebay. onkyo 876 does it all and then some. i bought mine for 1000 on amazon

I'm probably looking at spending around $400. I'll have to start saving pennies, the pioneer mentioned and the yamaha both sound like good options. I'll look into them for sure.

keep saving your money and just buy something bad ass. its more expensive to be buying midgrade crap every couple years. just because there is a new formate you dont need a reciever for the one format when you could get one that does EVERYTHING and it will have a good ten year run.

I would say grab a yamaha 663, it has the pre-outs and is a great receiver that you can find inexpensivly. I wouldn't think the $300 pioneer is much better then the sony 820. IMO

or stash a few bucks. take a look at the pioneer elite sc-05 and the onkyo 876. both are less than a $1000 on amazon and you get ssssooooo much more. you will be happier longer.
