Default Pre amps with HT Bypass

As much as I love my P3, changing out cables between music and HT is starting to get old. I don't mind it, but if I could find a good 2ch preamp with HT bypass that is also not ugly looking that would be great. Balanced in/outs are also a requirement. I've been googling to no avail, so I need help from the other audiophiles here. Budget is flexible, but this upgrade doesn't have a high priority right now, mostly just trying to start researching. Thanks!

I am a bit confused. Are you looking for a 2-channel pre-amp without the HT options?

Default Digital Pre-Amp

This may be blasphemy but are there pre-amps with a digital input? I ask because I use a Mac Mini as a HTPC. I have all my music on there as lossless and have MKV files for movies. Music quality is most important to me but I like having a HTPC because it is convenient.

My Mac Mini has an optical output that I send to my Marantz Receiver. I use and Emotiva XPA-5 for amplification. Is there a preamp that can pass through a digital signal to my Receiver for 5.1 movies and use the 2-channel signal for music?

I think you would need something like the Emotiva XDA-1 DAC in between the two devices.

I cannot remember seeing a stereo pre-amp with digital (granted, I have not looked at too many). Most multi-channel pre-amp/processors have digital input.

Disclaimer: I am a JATON dealer! for informational purposes.

The little known JATON RC200S 2 Channel Preamp has both optical and coax digital input connectivity.

You actually don't have to have HT pass thru for this to work.

If you can remember to preset your 2 channel preamp volume when you switch back and forth from HT to 2CH, you can simply use any (non-phono) input on the 2CH preamp for HT, and voila, the L&R mains from your AVR or PrePro will simply be running through the 2CH pre during HT.

Only (small) concern is that the L&R mains will be running through an additional Volume Control on HT, and that you need to remember to reduce the Volume Control before switching back to 2CH. This is because you will likely run the 2CH volume control rather high on HT.

This who idea is quite common, but sometimes difficult to wrap your head around, since it is the marriage of two basically separate systems.

The 2CH system resides separately except for the L&R input from the HT system during HT use.

I have this Van Alstine hybrid preamp and like it a lot. Van Alstine will add HT bypass for $50. Front and back pics in my gallery if interested. It sounds marvelous in my set up.
