One of my favorite features of DVD players has to be that I can turn off the player or stop the movie at any time and come back at a later time to pick up right where I left off. Maybe I haven't looked into it enough but I'm under the impression that there isn't a Blu-ray player out there that has this feature. If I'm mistaken please let me know, I'd like to know if there is a player that does save the time code where you were last watching. Thanks

PS3 for sure has it except with movies with either BD-Live and/or BD-Java but thats to be expected because those have a bookmark feature where you manually bookmark the spot you want to stop at which applies to all Blu-ray players with those certain movies. But anyways I know for a fact the PS3 has what you are looking for but not sure about stand-alones but its possible if the PS3 has it. It's done automatically where you just hit stop or

I know what you mean. It annoys me too. I have to remember, with older discs, I have to choose the "Play From Beginning" option.

Yeah, my Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD30) also will save the last spot of a DVD but because of the size of Blu-ray discs I guess it has to reload it every time. I'm really hoping they release a player with this ability for BD besides the PS3

Moonphase basically had it right (though BD Live has nothing to do with it).
This has been asked and answered many times around the web... Any title that was authored in the advanced BD-Java (BD-J) environment (which is 99% of titles) can not automatically resume. This is because Java is basically live code that compiles and executes on the fly each time it run, so there is no way a player can know where the disc's code left off. The only way it can resume is if the disc's Java features allow for a bookmarking feature and you choose to use it. Though conceivebly this could be done automatically if the disc vendor so programmed it to. |

Java in Blu-ray is basically an OS of it's own. It act like a computer. When you turn it off it shut down and when you turn it back up it have to reboot and reload. I know computer have a STAND-BY or HIBERNATION but even with that it have to reload the data. So think about it that way. The only way it would restart is by having so king of Stand-By memory witch it would wake up.
I pretty sure that some manifacturer will, some day find a way |
