Default You're head of Blu-Ray marketing what would you do?

What would your ideas be to make blu-ray start to pass dvd to the mass consumer?

Do as Disney's doing, release films ahead of DVD (by a decent margin). Also including a digital copy is genius when the BD is released weeks ahead of the DVD.

totaly correct. Perhaps start locking in exclusives. Imagine a world of BD only, or BD exclusive for a period of 1 month. Something like that would make BD seem like a true successor and not just a expensive toy, or hot commodity.

Lower the prices to DVD-level.
At this point, it's just stupid to charge more than DVD.

In the uk the stores need to get plenty more demostrations out because my sister had never really seen a HD movie and she was saying to me its just a gimmick to make you buy your films over again and i put one on for her and she was like oh my god thats amazing

I would make eco-friendly cases, and add digital copies to all blurays..........

Have HD vs DVD demos for catalog titles.

An HD DVD vs DVD demo of a new title like Pirates of the Caribbean is nice, but not that useful. By now everybody know that it looks better on Blu-ray.

However, many people still think that a movie like The Adventures of Robin Hood doesn't benefit from hidef, because "it was made before hidef even existed."

I was going to say simply get more advertising out there, because people (and I expect them to continue doing so) keep coming into the store I work at and asking "what's blu-ray?".

But on the other hand, once these people do know what blu-ray is all about, it strikes me that they'd expect all of the greatest films, or their favourite films, out on blu-ray (Star Wars, Sound of Music, All About Eve, Lord of the Rings, etc), because if blu-ray's so good, why isn't every film out on that format?

I'd say give those who are interested broader release dates for films that are coming out. If Jurassic Park is coming out in 2011, I want to know about it, and I can shut up about it until then, but they definitely have to keep pushing blu-ray marketing (at least here in the UK) and make it a much bigger deal than it is, beyond all of the PS3 fanboys, and those other technophiles.

Definitely. I didn't pay attention to blu-ray until I first saw the difference, and since then I can't really go back. Sure I'll still buy *some* DVDs (last ones I got were Hello, Dolly! and Jackie Brown), but seeing the difference pulled me into the HD world.

I agree. I also don't mind paying $26.99 for a title that has a Blu-ray,dvd, & digital copy included.

Make it like that but $24.99 so with tax it comes out to $26.

i dont understand people who are against the digital copies i dont see any difference in prices from the ones that have them to the ones that dont. The only bad thing is if you have to wipe your hard drive alot of people arnt going to realise thats it as youve deleted your license. It happened to me but warner gave me one more go with the code.So get digital copies on all the blu-rays adding extra value to them.

I would hit on the chicks by telling them:

Hey babe, know who I am ? the head of the Bluray marketing department. Admit you'd want me to impregnate you or something. I won't do that right now but that does not mean we cannot spent a night together, cause babe there's plenty of me for you. So, feeling happy love ? The head of the Bluray marketing department just for you, lucky girl !

Also I would advertise in ways that speak to everyone and I'd meet with the studios to try and convince them to release more titles with the best possible encodes and lots of extras.

Convince studios to put a DVD in every BD release the way Disney does and make that the only way that movies are released.

I would ask for better marketing and some blu-ray exclusive releases. Also ask for DVD releases to become bare bones, that will force some DVD fans to switch sooner.

aside from the fact that you wouldn't be able to control too much..... I think pushing for the DVD/Blu-ray combo packs would be the best solution.....

You would not only hit those who know they'll eventually upgrade.... but you'd offer an immediate gain for those who like getting the DVDs because they have kids, other players, etc....
