Talking Roman Epic "Eagle of the Ninth" with Tatum and Bell

There are bigger, bawdy arm-cannoned men in director Kevin MacDonald’s future. The director of Russell Crowe’s latest, “State of Play”, is prepping a Roman Empire pic titled “The Eagle of the Ninth” which Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum are flirting with.

MacDonald, who also helmed “The Last King of Scotland”, tells The Orlando Sentinel that "It takes place in Roman Britain in the second century. All the Romans will be American, all the Celts will be Scots and it's about the friendship between a Roman legionary and his Celtic slave. They go on a journey upriver, kind of like Apocalypse Now, crossing Hadrian's Wall, looking for the Lost Legion in the wilds of second century Scotland.”

"Allegedly 'lost legion.'”, adds MacDonald. “It turns out the whole legend was based on a misreading of the text. Actually, they went to Germany. But we'll forget about that, for our purposes!"

Could be fun, the trouble is there might be too much temptation to turn this into some sort of "magical mystery journey". While 2th century Scotland was mysterious and strange to the Romans, I doubt the reality of it would create excitement with today's very jaded audiences

2nd century, not 200 century. We are currently in the 21st century. The 200th century is approx. 17,900 years from now.

If 200 was reference to the year (ie. the 200's); The years 200 through 299 was the 3rd century, not the second.

The second century was years 100-199, this is the time period in which the story takes place.

The concept sounds interesting, depending on how good the writing is and what they focus on.
