Default OAR on movie channels?

So I just got Cinemax because they were showing all 4 Jaws movies in HD and guess what? None of them were in OAR!! Are there channels that are more apt to broadcast 2.35 channels than others? I'm so pissed

Yeah, most TV channels broadcast in full screen, which is 16x9 for the HD channels. There are a few exceptions though, like TCM or IFC. They show movies in OAR. Unfortunately these are only SD channels.

I don't have any insider knowledge but it seems to me that the studios decide what aspect ratio will run on the pay channels for any given title, not the pay channels themselves.

The studios seem to chop the scope films down to 16x9 for cable routinely unless doing so would create the need for Pan & Scan work (titles don't fit within the 16x9 frame, etc) or the Director expresses a preference to not have a particular film cut.

Showtime HD switched to OAR broadcasts as does HDNet Movies.

HDNet Movies has been broadcasting Winchester '73 at its proper 1.33:1 aspect ratio which I believe is the first Academy framed film they have aired.

Showtime HD was a shock since I was expecting many of the movies to be modified to fill my 16x9 TV.

I was also amazed that Fox HD broadcast Hollywood Homicide in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. SciFi HD and USA HD also broadcast the three Indiana Jones films in their 2.35:1 AR.
