Default A trip to Michael Fremer's world

Thought some of you vinylphiles might get a kick out of this article.

Greetings,
That was a great arcticle. Fremer is a audiophile of music and not just a vinyl guy. I've been reading his stereophile reviews for years.
So much for the "all cables sound the same" theory that some believe in.

He was one of the most outspoken opponents of CD. He is featured in the PS Audio video on the advantages of power cleanliness and does come across as a very passionate, animated audiophile.

Thanks for posting this Gremal! I enjoyed the read and associated equipment list (pics) immensely. I've been a reader, follower of MF's articles and philosophy for years. Despite his insanely expensive setup, I think he truly does enjoy it and not from the perspective most audiophiles are accused of (which is gear first, music second).

Nice find! I too read Fremer in Stereophile. It's really nice to see the photo's as it puts some framework around what I read from him. Of course his setup is to die for. He's messy though I think. I couldn''t put up with that kind of disorder in my listening room. (Another $345,000 more and I'm there!)

Rich,

I agree. However, I suspect as expensive has his turntable may be, I would not be surprised if your Forsell and my Teres may well sound close to or even as good or better.

Having formerly reviewed audio gear, I can vouch for it being impossible to keep a clean listening area. And I had nowhere near as much gear flying in and out as Fremer does. Between all the gear, boxes, vinyl, discs, accessories, cables and packing materials, It's hard to keep a clear path to your sweet spot. But those are some of the sacrifices audiophiles make.

I have no idea how, but it would neat to find out one day. :-) I noticed that Mikey has an SME Model 20/12 on another of his racks. I'm eyeing up it's bigger brother, the Model 30/12, but that's a long way off. I have too many other upgrades that need to be performed first! (The $50k entry price also gives one pause!)

I should hope so; $50,000 is a lot of money for most of us. Mikey's turntable and arm I think list (or did) for $90,000; I am wondering where the $150,000 comes from for the price listed. I know the rack system was $25,000. Maybe it includes the cartridge as well.

I really liked the MTV clip, it reminded me of what MTV used to be.

$50K is a HUGE pile of money for me! I just like to dream big. :-)

Maybe Continuum have raised the MSRP of the Caliburn, perpahs due to changes in the US/Oz exchange rate? Or, a bit more cynically, attempting to cash in on Mikey's endorsement?
