Black bars on plasma display - Blu-ray Forum

One thing I hate about widescreen is that there is no consistency - and I understand that (the way the movie was shot, etc). But how do you plasma owners deal with this? I am thinking about replacing my TV (LCD) with a pioneer plasma. Has anyone experienced burn-in due to the constant presence of these black bars? Any concern, or do you use a zoom mode?

(16:9 is a dumb ratio to be generally acknowledged as "standard")

Pioneers really don't have a burn in problem. And as everyone else said, zooming is heresy.

All you have to do is break in your set for the first 150 to 200 hours by watching full screen content. after that you can watch whatever ratio you want

No Zoom ! Black bars are our friends , They suck having to be there , But not much we can do about it !!!

NEVER zoom

No burn-in, nor any type of IR.

Excellent choice! No burn-in issues and I watch 3-4 BDs [black bars and all] atleast every weekend not to mention the movies I watch on HBO, STARZ, MGMHD, Universal HD, HDNet, etc.

I dont have any burn issues either and sometimes me and my wife will watch 1 or 2 movies a day some weeks. just make sure you dont have any setting on like vivid that will usually give you some burn in

I never broke my Kuro in. Two months later, no problems at all with anything.

never had any IR or burn from anything on my panny plasma! burn in is next to impossible on today's sets! IR can occur but it is only temporary and nothing to worry about!

echoing what everyone else said..........

The black bars won't burn in.... and they'll look better than the gray bars on my LCDs

Go for it!

no problems with black bars for me. Even with 4:3 material and the bars on the sides.

I love my Panny Plasma.
