Default Do you buy BDs to "watch" or to "collect"?

I've been fascinated by something on this board since I found it 18 months ago. It seem to me that there are far more collectors on here than just plain movie buffs. I understand it is possible to be both, but which are you primarily? Personally, other than the freebies I got when I bought my original BDP-s300 I've never bought a movie just to have it. I always buy them to watch. Nothing is ever left in the shrink wrap indefinitely.

So whay say ye? Primarily a "watcher" or a "collector"?

The key word was primarily so there is no "both" option. I read thread after thread about members having most of their collection still in the orginal shrink wrap and it made me curious if it was primarily a collection to them.

OP, one thing you have to keep in mind is that some people buy movies when there are deals and don't open them until they watch them. I've had as many as 15 movies wrapped on my shelf. But that was back in the good ol BOGO days.

I buy them to watch, multiple times. I think buying just to own and still having unopened Blus on the shelf is a waste of money.

A little bit of both. I enjoy having a nice selection. It also impressed the neighbors.

Yeah me too, seriously some people buy them to collect them? WTF, I thought movies where made to be watched. That's like those guys that buy $200k cars just to keep em garaged to show off and never drive. I see no point in owning a gun if it never comes out of the holster that's for sure.

Although I have bought a few titles on hype alone, I do watch everything in earnest. I open the case right away and load the disc to make sure it works. Had an early experience with a defective disc, so every purchase is opened right away and inspected and at least loaded in my player.

For me:

Watcher - 95%
Collector - 5%

For me, a movie isn't worth buying if it's not worth watching, but I will buy a nicer edition of a title I already have just to have the "cool" version, if it's nice enough, but only if it's worth watching yet again.

I buy movies to watch them and keep them because I like the movie, if I dont I sell them....but I collect all my favs. that I watch....soooo.....itd be both for me

its not like I buy them watch them and sell them all....that would just be retarded....youd just netflix it then

I buy them to goad people into making threads that revolve around the audacity of other people to buy more than the "deemed appropriate" amount of films worth owning by the forum police.

I do both

Every week I buy a movie but rarely do I watch it right away, most of the time it is just to own the movie and watch it when I feel like it.
