Default Bluetooth to replace movie posters? Wtf?

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0748871/

Quote:
Predicting that it will one day replace movie posters in theaters, the Belgian theater chain Utopolis said today (Thursday) that a communications system has now been activated that will allow visitors with Bluetooth-equipped cell phones to download trailers of each of the movies playing in the theaters as well as previews of forthcoming films. In the future, the company said in a statement, moviegoers will also be able to access special promotions, including "coupons" for snacks in the concessions area. The free service, which uses a "proximity marketing" technology developed by another Belgian company, Alterwave, also reminds users to turn off their cell phones when they enter the theater.
I can't live in a world without movie posters. I cannot have my daughter who is going to be in this world in the next couple of years see my collection of movie posters and ask me what they are. That is stupid on all levels. Movie posters are one of the great things about movie theaters. All movie theaters have posters, man!

I actually look forward to the day where I can buy an LCD the size of a movie poster and hang it on the wall, and rotate high-quality images of my favorite movie posters.

But even then, I would still want real, authentic paper hanging on the walls for the best of the best.

Technology sometimes freaks me out and often puts me in my parents shoes of how much things have changed in 40-50 years for people. Hell, even 20 years.

Or you can just get one of the many apps available for the iphone and other phones I presume; that allow you to see the schedules for your local theaters, watch trailers and read reviews for the movies, and even buy your tickets right from the phone. That way you can do it from anywhere..... not just in BT range of the theater.

How is a Bluetooth-downloaded trailer going to "replace" a movie poster? A trailer and a poster are not the same thing, nor would I expect one to replace the other.

Anything that cuts down on massive amounts of paper wasted by the movie industry is good by me.

Especially for those god-awful 10 foot tall cardboard stand ups.

Didn't you read the Dilber Principle? According to the author, that would be the last invention ever. Seriously...if you were a scientist who could 'holodeck' yourself onto a deserted island filled with nymphomaniac supermodels begging to fulfill your every wish, would ever leave?
