Default How much strength does a BD-drive need?

hey guys .... i built a relatively low end htpc a year ago-ish and was thinking of adding a Blu-Ray drive to it.

i was just wondering how strong of a cpu and graphics card should i be running to have it run smoothly? i talked it over with some friends (who arent really reliable on this subject), but i was told that i should at least consider stuff in the mid-range (of current gen) for both cpu and graphics if i wanna be happy with it.

anyways .......... any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

what does your system have for specs?

If you have a video card that offloads the work from the cpu you can generally get away with a lesser powerful cpu, but if you video card is older and only offloads a little of the decoding or none then you need a pretty beefy cpu

I don't know how accurate it is but Cyberlink (the site for PowerDVD) has a BD advisor that checks your system to see if it's capable of running blu-ray.

My desktop (in my signature) is a mid-range system and it handles Blu-ray very well. Before I built this rig, I was using AMD Opteron 170 (1.99GHz x 2). I have tried ATI HD3870, HD4670 and Nvidia 8400GS with it and they all worked just fine also.
