WHAT?? :?:

AACS' feature of the blacklisting of players is UNACCEPTABLE!
There goes the upgrading of your firmware for HD players... DAMN

SPDC provides the means to revoke a player's ability to play all titles...
And to create traceable content... To reduce output quality and destroy your player (?), with installing other firmware...

These protection programs will never be accepted by the public.
Their sales will implode!
And also, I would like to be able to copy movies. Why? To archive and back them up. The greatest thing of digital content is to be able to create 1 to 1 copies!
And some make misuse of that... Making some companies to put copyright protection on their discs... Making some consumers unhappy because they can't back them up. (As we all know CDs and DVDs and probably BDs can't hold their data as long as they say so...)

Whatever happens, if they are SMART, they wont use either of these enqryptions.

The funny part about all this is there is not a piracy problem and no mater what copy protection they use will not even come close to stopping piracy, if anything it will get worse when people realize that pirated media is easier to use.

You are right on the money there.

The BD recorder can do two things (one of which the Japanese version already does):

1) Record HD off the TV.
2) Play prerecorded stuff.

The way they are going, we will just wait until we can record the movie off HBOHD rather than deal with their excessive DRM type crap.

When are they going to understand that they are alienating their customers?

Recently I was in New Zealand and saw new music which I declined to buy since it was copy protected. I don't want a CD that may or may not work with my Car CD player...

So I waited until I was back in the US where the same CD's are not screwed with and bought them here. If they were copy protected here I would have not bought them at all.

The only way we can make a difference is to vote with our wallets!

Cheers!

I suspect one of three things will happen:
1. After the first generation the manufacturers will make their players immune to such attacks - just like what has happened in Australia with DVD. The regional encoding of DVD's was upheld by the big name manufacturers, while the cheap no name brand players had disabled this ‘feature’. Now all players can play disks from any region - what a silly idea in the first place.
2. There are going to be some mighty big law suits. This is the same as a bank going around and destroying a model of car because one car was used in a robbery of one of it’s branches.
3. Blu Ray will be renamed to Blu Ray Betamax.

Time for a new poll – anyone going to be an early adopter now.
