Default Amplifiers & Surge Protectors & Power Conditioner Questions

Separate amplifiers - are they meant to be plugged in directly to wall outlets? I remember reading that somewhere, but am looking for further clarification. Also, should/can they be plugged into Power Conditioners, provided, of course, that the conditioner can carry the current of the Amp?

Also, can they be used with surge protectors? I.e., the strip kind? Would the protector have to have a thick enough power cord to be able to carry the current of the amplifier? I'm a little unsure about this all, just looking to protect investments. Thanks in advance.
