help! my sound is completely gone all of the sudden. I tried watching a movie last night and I was getting nothing. I then figured it was the hdmi cable so I tried listening to my ipod through the dock and again....nothing! I can't get any sound out of it now. Yesthe speakers are all plugged in correctly and its not on mute. Any suggestions of what the problem could be?
To add additional information...I just put in a blu-ray and the hdmi symbol blinks and usually it is followed by some time of red sound symbol. Only it blinks and so symbol follows. Video output's but is not accompanied by sound. What is the deal? |

What kind of Onkyo is it? Try using something analog and see if that works. Sounds like something could be faulty- I'd hazard it might be something with the digital sound processing since HDMI and the Onkyo ipod dock don't work. Also go into the GUI and see if anything's set up strangely as far as output and maybe even go and do a reset.

My old pioneer Elite will lose sound when somebody hits the signal select button (it could be set to digital, analog, or autoselect) by mistake. If it was a digital source and set to analog it wouldn't play anything. Probably not it, but thought I'd mention it anyways.

I'm not calling you silly or anything, only because I've done it a dozen times, but, is there anything plugged into a front headphone jack? Biggest culprit could be the setup mic if you've just played around with it, or even just an adapter if you use a 1/4-to-1/8 inch adapter for your headphones?
The other suggestion of making sure the audio is set to "Auto Select" is a good one too, that would be my only other suggestion. |
