Default Please help me. Blu-Ray Player for 7.1 Audio: Oppo or ?

I don't currently own a blu-ray player and patiently have waited for several months for the release of the Oppo BDP-83.

I am currently on Oppo BDP-83 inquiry e-mail list. I just called Oppo and they are still on the December 2008 requests. I sent my e-mail inquiry on March 16, 2008. The cost will be $499 + $17 Shipping + Tax for California, ETC. General release will be May 18, 2009 and the same cost.

I have a modest 7.1 audio system compared to many here. I basically watch televison and rent movies to watch.

I really want to purchase the Oppo BDP-83, but I don't enough knowledge to justify the cost of it versus the many others to consider.

My question is, " To all, based on my signature and your personal knowledge, What would you suggest I consider purchasing?".

imo, if you have no interest in sacd or dvd-a playback, then you can find other players with excellent pq.

The Oppo is said to be quite fast and a great upconverter. Depending on your musical tastes, you may also discover the joys of SACD and DVD-Audio if you get a player that can playback such discs.

MR.GARY if money is a issue & u need a good blu ray player now I would get a panasonic BD60. Spend the difference on blu rays. With just looking at BD's oppo blu ray playback to me looks the same on PS3's, the latest Panasonic's & Pioneers. That may may change, we'll be looking out for sure.

I had a DVD player that did that for 5 years (second DVD player replacing the 1998 model that finally quit in 2003) and never used it so I figured that I wouldn't going forward either, but maybe down the road a bit, I'll go with high resolution audio available with blu and update my player
