Default Another Panasonic TC-P50S1 Owner

I waited half a month for the thing to get shipped to me, so I'm pretty excited to finally have it here in the living room. I've only had the slide show going on for a little over 2 hours, so I got a long way to go.

I watched a little bit of the news this morning, and I think the quality is comparable to my XBR4. Hopefully after the full break-in and adjustments, it will look a lot better. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase.

Well, I'm only halfway through the break-in period, so my settings are still below half. Will I see a big improvement after a proper adjustment? Right now, the quality is just decent to me, I guess because I'm so used to the XBR4's excellent picture. I'm hoping to see darker blacks and sharper picture.

Just going from the 800u to the S1 was a big improvement in PQ. Was your XBR4 professionally calibrated.

No professional calibration here. The XBR4 is just a great TV. Colors are natural, blacks are dark, and the motion is smooth.

I would just like to hear other people's opinions on how their sets looked after break-in. I just hope the improvement is worth the wait.

I have the 85U which was last year's mid-range offering from Panasonic, I believe what the S1 is this year. I noticed a difference after running my 100 hour break-in. I used the free download and burned to a disc with regards to the break-in DVD. I got some temporary image retention after gaming but it goes away. All in all I am quite pleased with it as it was my first plasma/HDTV purchase for me. I waited until I found a model I really wanted, and size was a factor for me. I probably won't go the calibration route, I just don't see the benefit to it as the ones I have seen calibrated appear darker and not as crisp as non-calibrated sets. But I will admit I don't know much about the whole calibration process.

Just watched T2 on the new plasma, and it looks great. Cable still looks like crap, but I guess that's just Time Warner. Also played Resistance 2 flawlessly. No lag or green trails or anything.

Congrats on the new S-1. I bought that one two weeks ago and was really pleased with it , i wanted the G-10 but it was $300.00 more, so i passed , then one wek later and I'm the rpoud owner of the G-10 because they droped the price to the same as the S-1, I have played around with it a bit , but my break in period , as I'm working 3rd shift so only home on the weekends , so My little girl did my breakin for me,, Spongebob & cartoons for 2 weeks in full pic reslt. and have way on brightness & contrast, so I think that will owrk , been watching Movies on it and no IR or lagg here, But I dont game so I really dont worry to much on it , also I had the HP 42" Plasma for 2 years and it still looks great , my son has it now and he plays PS3 on it also has his laptop on it plus satalite, hes very happy .. so If I was you just really sit back and enjoy it ..dont worry about the perfect breakin period.. just my 2 cents,, Now go watch Sin City on Blu-ray and you'll see those colors shine through the Black ...cheers jeff

Thanks for your input on the G10. I liked the G10, too, but I got the S1 for a few hundred dollars cheaper and went for that.
