Default new video player out now WOW! will take over Blu-ray. Laser disc!

ok just kidding will never take over Blu-ray. I just got a laser disc player at a garage sale for $35.00 and jurassic park on LD for $5.00 was going to get more but didnt have the money on me. they had like 75 discs wanted 20 of them. they had the first three star wars box set without digital enhancement but wanted $80.00 for them is that a good price? is it hard to find LD's? and is there a place I can get them online cheap. thanks for the help

I would've bought the Star Wars LDs. Widescreen versions of the original versions? Are you kidding? Those don't exist on DVD.

Actually, there were some LE's a few years ago that I jumped right on. I can't remember though, they say something about being 2.35:1 but on a 4:3 screen. For some reason, I got the impression that if I watched them on a 16:9 set, it would be surrounded by bars.

Were any LD's ever 16x9? I was never sure of that. I saw a load of LDs for about $5 - $15 at the Goodwill by the high school I went too.

In Japan, there were small number of titles released as Squeeze LD. These were marketed just as Laserdisc was being phased out.

Basically, if you watched a Squeeze LD on a 4x3 display, the picture would be vertically stretched. When you watch it on a 16x9 display, the picture is in the proper dimensions. No Laserdisc was ever made that do the same 4x3 downconversion as DVD players.

if the HDTV is set to 4:3 yes it is sourrounded by black bars. but in 16:9 it is the same as a DVD
