Default BD-S550 1080/50i /60i ?

I have had the player since xmas, and run it through my amp and then onto a couple of Generations old 1080i Hitachi Plasma, the same one they used to compaire with the PX range panasonics.

Its 42" and setup using HD basics blu ray disc, now im sure that some discs show they run at 1080/50i and other /60i when i press the Blu Ray remotes Display button is this right? and would getting a full 1080P TV change that BD-S550 to display 1080/50p or 60p? and under what conditions would the 24p light on BD-S550 light up ?
