Default Pioneer Elite receiver - PC, Help

I have the VSX-92TXH. I tried hooking up my PC to in on Satruday via DVI-HDMI. I got the video to work but not the sound. My PC doesn't output sound through the video card so I had to run a sepeate cable for sound. But I just couldn't get it to work. Anyone have this kinda setup. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm not thinking of. Thanks,

um, what kind of cables are you using for sound?

...and did you set the Pioneer Input to correlate with this audio cable?

and perhaps a setting in you PC also may be preventing sound output?

Using a basic rca cable, single black on one end, split red-white on the other. Check all the settings on my pc and it seems everything is fine there. The output jack on my pc is green, the cable I was using is black, don't think that would make a difference, but not sure how particular those color codings are. What I think the problem is, is that when I run HDMI into the receiver, the receiver thinks that sound will be coming through as well. Where in the receiver menu do I tell it that sound is coming from a different input?

You have to adjust that particular HDMI Input settings.

I believe, you can connect the cables to the Multichannel Front Left/Right inputs and tell the Pioneer your audio for HDMI is Multichannel Analog. (granted you will only have two channel)

(kinda busy at the moment, but if you need further help maybe later tonight)

So I can get sound to come through my receiver now, I plugged to audio cables into the BD in. But when I go into the setup menu and change the input to hdmi I don't get the music anymore. So I guess it comes down to is, how do I get video via HDMI and audio to come through a different source.

Really quick, looking at page 67 of your manual:
-SETUP
-Input Setup
-Select the input
-Select the video input (the HDMI input you plugged the HDMI into)
-Select the audio input (the analog input you plugged the black mini-RCA cable into)
-Save

I've tried that, but when I go into the input setup for HDMI 3, it doesn't let you change any of those other options.

You have to do it from a labelled source, not under HDMI 3. So, in this case, assign whichever HDMI input you're using to, say, the Video/Game 1 input, and then plug in the red/white audio cables to the red/white Video/Game 1 audio input for sound. According to the manual, you will have to turn OFF HDMI control in order to do those assignments (see page 65 of the manual if you need to). So, if you're using HDMI Control, you may not be able to do this.

Tried that as well, plugged to audio cables into dvd-in. I get sound, but then when I go into the input menu, and change the dvd video input to HDMI the sound cuts out. I have an email into Pioneer, hopefully they can help.

You will have to disable HDMI control before being able to assign HDMI inputs. See last post.

connect your cables here:

Tell the HDMI Input to use "Multichannel" analog audio.

...you will be limited to two channel audio.

If you want to be slick, use Y-splitters to connect to the other speaker inputs.

Are you running your PC through the receiver, back to the PC Monitor? or to a TV?

To my tv.

HDMI control is set to off always.

I'll give the 'multi channel' in a try when I get home. Two channel audio is fine with me.

Why not just connect your HDMI-DVI cable straight to your TV, and the audio cables to your receiver into the "dvd-in" you said already works.

No need to run video through the receiver first.

You know, I didn't even think of that, at this point it might be the easiest option. Thanks everyone for your help. I can usually figure this shit out myself, I get pretty frustrated when I can't.
