Default Hand Washing, How Much? How Often?

Finaly got sometime off here at work to post this thread.

This situation with the virus going around as made me wonder how many times a day I wash my hands. I knew I was washing my hands quite often and I can also tell you that in the past decade I can count on one hand how many times I got the flu or a cold.

So over the weekend I decided to count it and make an average for the 3 days between Friday to Sunday.

I was a bit surprise by the number, over 20 times a day. I was also surprise to notice I went washing my hands rather quickly after meeting someone and shaking hands. On Friday night I was introduce to someone, shake hands and realize that within 5 minutes after the introduction, I was in the bathroom washing my hands. I never notice if it's something I do all the time or it's because of what's happening right now? Hard to be sure, I can be compulsive at times.

Over the weekend could not be a good reflection, since I was out of the house a lot and so I have this habit of washing my hands often in stores and in public places, so it's possible it's a bit less when I am at home.

What about you guys?

I carry Purrel with me all the time mostly. This was even before this whole outbreak. Taking the metro / bus makes me more inclined to carry it around with me. I'd say I wash my hands maybe 5-6 / day.

For me. It's a given. No matter if there's a deadly virus out there or not. I always wash my hands. I'd say 20x a day, and yes it's with SOAP!

I clean hands after shaking them with someone as I've seen too many filthy bastards walk out of a mens room without washing. I think I wash them more than the average person

I take the bus twice a day and as soon as I get to office or home I wash my hands. Our good old Montreal Metro is a haven for germs

It's amazing that people walk out without washing up, we were talking about this the other day here at work and how damn disgusting it is that some in our office do this.

this may sound weird but I wash my hands and while the water is still running pour some on the knob that I will twist to shut it off, then I use a paper towel as a guard to open the door

I always use the paper towel (if available) to open the door. If there was the dryer only I do my best to keep my contact on the door handle as miminal as possible. It's just amazing how many people do not wash their hands when leaving the bathroom, it's very disgusting.

Haha a few weeks back we were talking about this, especially the bathroom one. At work there is a towel dispenser, the tap, and the final door to touch (after using the toilet). I use, hit the tap, wash my hands, turn the tap off, and grab a paper towel (using the dispenser lever) to dry, but I've seen others THINKING they're keeping things clean and doing the following: use washroom, GRAB paper towel dispenser lever, grab the tap, wash hands, grab paper towel, turn water off, grab towel and dry. Now, they have compromised my whole routine because they're essentially wiping their dirty hands on the dispenser for which I use for drying my hands, AND using alot of paper towel! Then again, one could argue I'm wiping my dirty hands on the tap, cleaning, then turning the water off using the same tap (but it's more of a thump with the side of my hand versus a full-on grip).

Bah, I do find myself quite conscious of when my hands are clean though, funny you should mention. In a given day... showering, after eating OR before brushing my teeth, after snacking at work (greasy fingers = greasy keyboard), after using the washroom, usually after shaking hands with somebody, after lunch (greasy keyboard theory), washroom, then once I get home from work I always do. Add in any times I handle garbage or something that may seem questionable, probably over 10 times in a given day though.

My hands are clean right now though. Although, I no longer use paper towel to open the door (usually my pinky) so my hands are "clean" right now. Think you just can't stress out too much about it or you'll drive yourself crazy.

GO FIGURE, just went to use the washroom (two) and I walk in: somebody had pissed all over the seat, then saw somebody use the urinal and grab a paper towel and take off.

Wow, I don't understand the ignorance of people, it's disgusting!

I feel like I need a shower.

I wash mine alot. I think to much. I've worked in Produce for 7 years so if I handle back and forth with trash and produce then trash and produce. Basically going back and forth. I wash my hands all the time. I say with a 8 hour shift I wash my hands about 15 times

Not weird. I always do it. I hate when they don't have paper towels to open the door. Sure it makes sense for the environment but what's the point in washing my hands if I have to open the door with all the germs on it. If no paper towel is available I try to open it with my foot lol.

I think the worst part about work bathrooms has got to be that one guy who feels the need everyday to drop anchor in the men's room and make the paint peel off the walls. Why is it every place i have ever worked has one of these types in their office.

I wash my hands every time after using the bathroom
I wash my hands every time before I clean up my newborn son or daughter, or feed him, change him, give him a pacifier, etc.....

I can't say everytime before I eat, as I know sometimes I just pull my bagged lunch out of the drawer and eat at my desk.....

I guess that's it......mmmmmm, no wonder my wife is always on my case...

I guess you could say I'm just a dirty white boy........
