Default Which is better SLR Camera Videos or HD Camcorder Pictures?

Hey everyone -

I have about $900 that I would like to spend on a new camera. I currently have a small 5mgp digital camera but don't have a video camera yet. I know that most video camera can take pretty good pictures but I also know that some digital SLR cameras can also take good videos.

Question is which is better? Take pics in a camcorder or take video in a camera?

decide which is more important and get one that does it's main job really well.

you don't want to take vids with a new DSLR and you don't want to take pics with a handycam, they added those feature just to have them but either secondary function is not the best

thanks Tea - I think you are correct, I will most likely go with the video since that's really what the primary function is going to be.

Give the Canon Vixia HF S100 a look.

I'm also looking at this model as well as the HF S10 with internal memory. My sister-in-law has the older HF10 and I've used it in a recent trip. Everything was good except for the battery life. You really need a spare battery or the bulky extended battery if you plan to use the camcorder for a few hours.

I bought the S10 a few weeks ago and I love it. I bought the BP-819 battery, which lasts about 2 hours, which is fine for me. 16GB flash cards only give me around 1.5 hours of recording space anyway.

I have been torn between the CANON VIXIA HF10 and the Sony Handycam HDR-CX12. Both look really good.

I had a Sony high def tape camcorder (HDR-HC3), but I didn't want a new camcorder to have to use tape or a hard drive. I like the Canons because they use flash cards, and the picture quality is excellent.

I have the Sony CX11 and am very happy with it. It is the same as the CX12 with 1/2 the HDD space. I also have an SLR and am quite happy having the SLR for photos and not video.

Is that battery just like the stock one or is that the extended one?

It is slightly extended. It's not as extended as the BP-827 though.

Extend your budget and get this when it comes out: http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/04/p...gets-examined/

Panasonic GH1. The G1 has gotten a lot of good reviews, and the GH1 takes it to the next step.
