Default Help! Problem switching between SD and HD channels on my tv

Sometimes, when switching from a SD to a HD channel on my cable box, I get sound but no picture. Going back to the previous SD and returning to the HD channel brings the picture back.

Does this indicate a problem with the HDMI cable, tv or cable box?

I would say the box or your receiver. Sounds like HDMI handshake issues.

what tv do you have? could be the tv not pickup the signal from the box so I say the box or cable. do you have it set up to zoom in on SD channels at 480p and switching to hd signal afterwards?

Also, I had a similar issue where every now and then switching from SD to HD I would get audio but a green screen. I replaced the box and it has been fine since.

I've managed to isolate the problem somewhat, by forcing my cable box to only display a max of 720p.

My tv is a 720p set, but some channels are 1080i obviously - so my cable box was set to display whatever a channel was natively broadcasting.

Now I'm forcing it to only display 720p, it's fine.

So does this help any further as to whether the problem might be my TV or my STB?

I should add that I've had both the STB and TV for over a year without issue so far.

I would assume it is your STB before your TV. They aren't the most reliable things. You can get it replaced free right? Might as well try it.

I think you're right. The fact my tv has no issue with my PS3 and 1080i would indicate it's either my HDMI cable or the STB.

Still, I can live with forcing 720p - makes for faster channel switching anyway.
